Gray Polarized Sunglasses w/Side Shields, Separate Bifocal Frame +2.5 Large
A unique pair of sunglasses here- high quality gray polarized non-prescription lenses in a heavy frame with gray side shields. Above an entirely separate clear bifocal providing +2.5 magnification for close work. These were made in Japan, my guess is vintage 1970s. The top lenses provide a full field of vision with no bifocal distortions- the eyes need to shift sharply downward in close focus to get the bifocal view. Useful for all sorts of outdoor activities, I suppose, but in my opinion the polarized lenses and side shields could make them peerless fishing sunglasses for the right person- someone who's a good fit for a large oversize frame like this one, with 20/20 distance vision to use the non-prescription lenses, perhaps with a reading(farsightedness) prescription that matches the magnification on the bifocals. I need a distance ... moreprescription myself, and don't require reading glasses- but I did find that the +2.5 magnification is a real help when doing close-in work that's even more demanding than reading- like trying to thread a 6x tippet to a size 22 hook eye. Large-to-extra large frame size- I'll put up the measurements soon, along with closeups of the lens condition, which is nearly flawless.
