The decoy was made with fine craftsmanship, having a full set of metal fins, even though small, and the added details of a line of red spots and a red-slashed mouth, plus two small belly cavities of lead. The provenance of this fish decoy is that it was made in the 1960's and comes from Minnesota, although the identity of the fisherman/folk art carver is unknown. It has been in the collection since 2010.

Vintage Roy Anderson Minnesota 8.5" Folk Art Fish Decoy
Here is a nice vintage fish decoy that was identified as to be made by Roy Anderson from Northern Minnesota when I bought it 15 plus years ago. This decoy is in great condition though it does show some nominal working use. It is about 8.5" long. I would date this decoy to the 1950's. The colors are still nice and bright and this decoy is ready to be added to your collection. 30" L x 6" W x 8" H. This is no longer made but was an incredible fishouse heater that you could set your kettle on and also cook with. Made in Ortonville MN back in the day. louie genise vintage fish decoy minnesota
listed today is a very nice old red and white Minnesota fish decoy. I bought this decoy from louie genise in about 1990. louie only carved decoys for himself. he is deceised. his name was Louis genise and resided in northern Minnesota. he only carved 10-12 fish. this fish is in original paint and has his intials in the weight. It measures six inches long and is in red and white. the lead weight was done very well and the fish swims well. there is some ware but overall in great original condition. I believe louie carved this fish in the 50s. he used thumbtacks for eyes and metal fins. its probably made of cedar like most of the Minnesota carvers used. he always used the same line ties.
