Wonderfully-formed, Pike or Muskie Spearing Decoy was hand carved and painted by Michigan's Renowned decoy carver Gerald D. Finch(1931-2001) of Ashton, Michigan, a town located in the central area of Michigan's lower peninsula about 75 miles south of Traverse City. Mr. Finch is one of Michigan's lesser known fish decoy carvers but he has hand-crafted thousands of incredible spearing decoys ranging from fish to ducks to muskrats and frogs. His effective spearing decoys are all wonderfully carved, brightly colored and heavily weighted. Not only are they known for their aesthetic qualities, but also for their ability to bring big pike into your spearing hole for their last meal. Like many carvers, his shop was full of paints, brushes, cut fins and decoy bodies in various stages of completion. The cedar bodied decoy measures 7-1/4" long x 8" wide x 2-3/8" tall and weighs 8-ozs. which includes the perfectly poured in and more than adequately weighted lead ballast weights in the bottom. The decoy has all aluminum metal fins which are perfectly cut into the shape of the duck's wings and the rear rudder. They can all be bent to your liking to swim in whatever pattern the spearer prefers from tight diving circles to long sweeping ascending swimming arcs. The wood carving is astoundingly realistic for a drake goldeneye including the plump, round body, short, thick neck and puffy head with a stubby bill. The glass eyes are carved in and mounted perfectly as is the duck's bill. The wings and rear rudder are inletted and glued deeply into the body as this decoy is as solid and well made as you can get.
