VINTAGE SPINNING ROD. GARCIA CONOLON. MODEL 2500-A. MADE IN THE USA. The fishing rod in the pictures is the same pole you are bidding on. This is a sweet little deal on a vintage Garcia Conolon ultra light spinning rod from the early 1960’s. It was originally priced@ around $16.00. Which was a considerable sum of money in it’s day. This is a model 2500A and it is rated for 1/16 to 1/4 ounce lures with fishing line rated at 1 to 6 LB test. What could possibly be more fun when you are pan fishing? Especially when a bass decides to slam your lure and tail-dance his way across the pond! HANG ON. AND DON’T TRY TO"HORSE" HIM IN! 5 feet long when assembled. It is made of two piece hollow fiberglass construction, with hard chromed stainless steel guides and tippet eye. The handle is made of high quality cork with tapered steel rings for ... moremounting the reel and a rubber butt cap for protection. This spinning rod is in very fine condition. No fraying around the guides and the cork handle is in very nice shape. Looks like it might have never had a reel mounted. These rods were a revolutionary concept utilizing an unusual rod material called Missilite. Missilite was a lightweight material developed for World War 11 aircraft. New" Different" Exclusive: were words to describe these new Conolon fishing rods. These rods were manufactured in Costa Mesa. Ca. during the 1950's by the National Rod Manufacturing Company(NARCO) No serious collector will want to pass up on this rod. As they are extremely RARE. This is a nice 2pc spinning rod that is in good condition with the guides and wraps in good condition along with the cork and Tennessee type reel seat. The rod is rated for 1-6 pound test line and a lure weight of 1/16- 1/4 ounce. The cloth bag and aluminum tube are in good shape. This rod was made in the early 50's before Garcia acquired Conolon. Shakespeare was the first to offer tubular fiberglass rod's after WWII and Conolon was a close second. Silaflex actually head-hunted workers from Conolon to start their business. Rod has its original hang tag with just a small corner missing see pictures. This is a nice 9' Conolon pole. I do not know if it is a fly pole or a spinning pole. But it had a spinning reel on it when I got it. I have seen it described as a fly pole. Doesn't look like one to me but I am no fisherman. The eyelets are all intact and do not look as if they have been replaced. UPDATE: everything will be placed into a shipping box. The logo tube will be protected. I don't know about poles so please don't assume that I have checked anything other than the careful visual inspection. I feel confident that this is the five star due to its agate guides and the five stars on the hard-tube. There is a little missing from the decal and some very light scuffing to one side of the anodized base(photo) but nothing prominent and no indication that this was ever even mounted with a reel or that it rested on its base outside of the sock. The sock is great with no rips or stains and an excellent name patch. The cardboard hard-tube has had its paint banged up quite a bit. Classic Garcia Conolon 8 1/2' Royal Javelin Custom Fiberglass Fly Rod 2/1
The color of the wraps on this rod indicate that it was made by Garcia after the Conolon acquisition circa 1961-63. This rod is very good plus. The only flaw I can find is a break in the overwrap on the female ferrule-see pictures. This is an 8 1/2 foot 7-8 weight bass taper. These were custom built fiberglass rods with an unusual staggered ferrule configuration. The reel seat has a black plastic spacer and gold anodized aluminum fdittings. It is interesting that I can find no mention of Garcia or Conolon on this rod. It has the Royal Javelin decal and"Genuine Carballoy Tip-top" in black script. Another great rod for the fiberglass collector.
