Here is a Vintage Mil wards of England Solid Wood Salmon Rod. This is a 3 piece 1 tip with a length of 10 feet 7 inches. I believe this rod is Greenheart but not sure. Th e t ip section is short by 2.5 inches. The ferrules are spiked and brass in construction. The mid has all the guides but the but need to have the agate or glass insert reattached. The tip section needs 3 guides replaced. These are the t hin wire casting style guides. The cork grip is 16.5 inches long. The reelseat. Cork a nd ferrules are in good sh ape. The Milwards name is l egible on the butt ca p. The sliding ri ngs for t he reel are brass in construction. The sections are pretty straight but t he tip has some fishing experience. For your consideration- A very nice F E Thomas 9 1/2 ft Thomas Special Salmon Rod which also has the fight butt handle- tip tube.Cap and sock- canvas case with orig tag- butt section has ferrule plugs for both ends and the butt end plug is numbered the same as rods reel seat#382- which all matches the original tag guides and wraps nice and tight. the only issue I see with this rod is the butt and middle sections the original finnish is cracking and should be either touched up or refinnished but not terribly check pics- there is a wrap near cork that is starting to come loose and the cork is lightly soiled from use. All wraps are intact and in great condition. Ferrules are in great condition, fit well and pop when pulled apart. The reel seat, fighting butt and cover are in great condition. The sock, tip tube and tip tube sock are in great shape. The rod sock even has the E.F. Payne tag on it. The long and short tip sections also have Agate tip tops on them. Item Photos, Hello and welcome to the auction.This is for a rare old original printed paper Irish fishing permit for 1896 dated 9th March 1896 from the Salmon and Inland Fisheries for a single salmon rod in the Cork District from Ballycotton westward to Galley Head which was issued by the Irish firm of W.Haynes& Son of Cork.It was printed by R.Acheson.Printer& Stationer,39 George's Street,Cork and measures approximately 17cm.by 14cm.The permit was amongst items from an old Farlow 191 Strand,London leather fly wallet which also held a Haynes packet with black japanned hooks to gut.The permit is made out to a H.S.Logan* of the 17th Regiment(17th Leicestershire) and is signed in ink'W.Haynes& Son'There is the embossed stamp of the Salmon Fisheries of Ireland,Board of Conservators. This would appear to be the same Captain ... moreH.S.Logan of the Leicestershire Regiment who was killed in action on 1st May 1908 of wounds received whilst commanding a detachment of Soudanese Troops near Mesellamin.Soudan.There is a monument in St.Martin's Cathedral which was erected by his brother officers in his memory. The condition is generally good.The permit has been folded and the centre vertical fold line is holding.It looks a bit fragile and when held up to the light there are a few very small light gaps along the bottom half of the fold.There is one small tear of approximately 1cm. to the left hand margin where the horizontal fold starts.There is a bit of age marking to the paper(less than the photographs suggest) and a small amount of loss to the bottom right hand corner bottom margin edge. This is one of the beautiful old rods made by Jim Green before he went to Fenwick. Jim Green was a world fly casting champion and was also credited with developing the first Fenwick Feralite Ferrule. This rod has been professionally restored to a condition close to its original condition. The only part of the rod that could not be restored to a like new finish was the wooden handle which had stains that occurred when the rod was originally fished. Please look carefully at the rod and the quality of the work on the reel seat. Line guides and wrappings. Also look at the flecked color of the rod itself. It is marked"The Hi-Regan" on the butt plate- Hi Regan was the pen name of Captain John Joseph Dunne(1837-1910) an Irishman who wrote a book about fly fishing in the 1800's. Not sure but this may be one of Hardy's Gold Medal line of spey rods since it has the steel center core. Rod measures 16 feet assembled(using the longer tip- one is shortened) Circa 1910-20. Note the ... morequality of the heavy duty lockfast joint ferrules. The wraps, and the finish. It has a nice decorative ferrule stopper. It is engraved"C MCARTHER" on the band just below the blank. Comes in the original marked Hardy's bag. This great collectible and wallhanger will be mailed in a heavy cardboard carptet tube for maximum protection! Unfortunately. Bruce and walker 'Expert' handbuilt 16' salmon rod 9-11' carbon fibre
I have had this rod for 10 or 12 years i guess.And i always intended to learn to cast it for salmon and also for coastal fishing. Consequently the only use it has had is in the hands of a few friends i have lent it to. My life plans have changed now and i find myself by a trout stream that requires the maximum of 7' of 2 wt. From what i understand it cast's beautifully and with the line in the water is a powerful responsive rod. But i have to admit its wasted in the east of England.

The rod measures 13 foot. including the handle) in overall length. The fittings and adjustable"screw-grip" reel seat to the butt section are in aluminium, these do show some small patches of discolouration. It has"lockfast" joints and all of the rings are present and well attached, the top and bottom ring are agate lined, however, the bottom ring is bent forward. The burgundy whipping is in good order and the rod appears to be straight and has a spare ... moretip. The aluminum butt has the Royal Appointment Crests. This rod will handle just about anything thrown at it, it loves shooting heads. Of which i have used the majority of the time on the rod, also handling short headed spey lines with absolute ease! Cabelas Fish Eagle II 9'6" 9/10 weight Fly Rod for Stripers. Salmon, etc. I fished this rod for stripers back east and then for salmon and steelhead after I moved out west. It is a big, powerful rod that is easy to cast and throws a WF9 like a catapult. At one point I broke the hook keeper, so I removed that and put a nice trim wrap there. You can see this area well in the photos. If I didn't mention it, you might not even notice. The butt section has a some micro scratches you can see in the photos. It also has a couple minor scuffs.
