St. Croix 7 1/2' fly rod, 4/5 weight, SCIV blank, made in USA
This rod doesn't see the water enough. So I'm selling it for someone else to enjoy. It's a St. Croix 7.5-foot two-piece fly rod, custom made by maker JW Trout on the classic medium-action SCIV blank, which was manufactured in the USA. The rod is rated for a 4/5 line; I like it with a SA XPS WF 5-weight. It's a good size for smaller streams where you may run into a bigger fish. The blank is matte green, with translucent brown wraps. It does not come with a rod sock or tube, but I will ship in a hard PVC plastic tube. Terms: Please pay within three days of auction's end. I purchased this with a bunch of other Fenwick rods that are all Fenglass so I would assume it is the same vintage. The rod is in excellent condition as seen in the pictures. The cork handle is in great condition as well. The reel is a Wright and McGill Eagle Claw Model A. D. W. Gill Autographed 3B model in good condition. W.S. Franke 7'6"1-2pc. For those whoever have visited a classic tackle show in the Northeast. you have probably seen Bill Franke. Bill was the owner of One Pfoot(machined parts for Pflueger Medalist reel) Bill built countless rods and rod components. He was a true gentleman. Whom I'm proud to have called him my friend. The rod was built by Bill from an Orvis unsanded graphite blank. The 7'6"1-2pc. The classic Orvis with the sleeve ferrule. The reel seat is a nickel silver cap and ring with a curly Koa insert. The reel seat prefers a thin reel foot. Like a CFO or Hardy. The wraps are red with a clean black tipping, very classy as are all of Bill's work. This rod has been in a rod tube for most of its days, it doesn't appear to be ever fished. Very well could be Scott as this rod has spigot ferrules which they are known to use frequently. It is a quality rod and is built well. Has a cool"stealth" look to it and cast great and short to medium distances. Perfect dry fly rod. This is a great looking rod! The rod is sanded to a matte black finish with glossy black guide wraps. Fishable condition. 1 is a South Bend#4269, 6'6" two piece light action with rolled-welt ferrule and a sliding band reel seat; 2 is a European-made"Match" light action with a rolled-welt ferrule which began as a 7 footer, but had 3 inches or so broken off the tip, and the tiptop replaced with a Fuji ceramic; and one blank stripped down from a Berkeley Cherry Glass 6'6" light spin rod. Both rolled-welt ferrules are in good condition, and to a rod repairer, just those ferrules are worth several times the minimum bid. For sale at a buy it now fixed price is this very hard to find fiberglass fly fishing rod. Made to compete with the smuggler rods of the time it is a 4 piece 7 foot rod. It is a custom rod made by Don Russell Custom Rods of Arvada(a suburb of Denver) back in the day. Like many of their rods this was made with components from local rod makers at the time. I believe that this is a Phillipson blank with a Phillipson reel seat. Custom wraps, and the very high end ferrules that use rubber o rings for a secure fit. With the custom wraps and snake river eyes this is a very attractive rod. It comes the way we got it.in a modern Cabellas Stowaway rigid tube covered with water resistant cordura and the rod sack that went with it. Both are a perfect fit for the rod. Like most custom rods. And in fact most Phillipson rods the appropriate fly line to ... moreuse is not marked on the rod. In my backyard I can throw a WF-4-F with the rod but I can tell that it is not the appropriate line. However, both the WF-5-F and the WF-6-F lay out wonderfully with this rod. Condition is used. There is a little wear on the case but not much. The rod itself is in terrific condition.no repairs. No damage.the windings, eyes and seat are good. There is a little oxidation on the cork as you see but we see no damage to the cork and no hook picking on the cork. Nice custom built fly rod using a fiberglass Lamiglas blank. Black anodized REC reel seat and matching black Hopkins& Holloway guides. Blank is 2 pc, 9 ft for a 7 or 8 weight line with tip over butt ferrule. End cap on seat is removeable if you want to add a fighting butt(not included. Grip is individual rings glued to blank and turned on a lathe. I fished this rod only once so it shows little or no use. Nice smooth progressive action- perfect for steelhead, bass, large browns or small stripers. No tube or sock but I will pack carefully and ship in PVC tube. Shipping to continental US will be $10.
