Rare Sage LL 486-3 Fly Rod with Blank Warranty Card Beautiful Excellent Cndition
This is a beautiful used Sage LL Fly Rod. Graphite III construction. Three piece. Eight and a half foot for four weight. Cork is barely soiled as this rod has only seen the water a handful of times. Seems I neglect it so it should be in the hands of someone who will give it water time. There are a some slight scratches to the reel seat end but these could be buffed out. Amazingly, the nickel silver is still pretty shiny. Maybe not as bright as the showroom days but still looks really nice. I have gone over the rod and cannot see any scratching or dings to the blank. There is barely any indication that the rods ferrules have ever come together as I always kept a good layer of wax on them. This has the split ring hook keeper as well. All wraps in great shape. No chunks out of the cork. The tube shows wear but is perfectly round. Cap fits perfectly ... moreand still has the rubber seal. And the most amazing part is that I never filled out the original warranty card so that comes with it as well. This custom built Sage rod is in excellent used condition. It is a 7'3" unequal butt and tip sections. And made that way) for 3 or 4wt. Nice moderately slow action reminiscent of fiberglass or cane. A couple scratches to the paint, nothing that would effect the rod's action or longevity in any way. The wraps are equal to, if not better than, Sage factory wraps. Comes with original sock. Here is a Custom built 9' 2 Pc fly rod. Sage blank, 5 wt rod, very nice rod! It measures the full length 9 ft long when assembled with each section being 55" long. The tip has never been broken and all the sections fit tightly with no slack and the rod looks great. I had a terrible time getting good photos that depict the details of the rod and I tried several different settings. The rod is a very dark brown color. If you need better pictures email me and if the snow melts I will take some pictures in natural light, it should show up better. Steel head or Salmon casting rod built on Sage blank
What I have here is a Sage high modulus fiberglass rod blank model 290SSH that I wrapped into a Steel head and Salmon casting rod. The rod has a full cork handle and a Fuji graphite reel seat. The rod is two piece and has perfection hardware on it for guides. The blank is turned to have the spine and guides matched to Sage factory specs. I've built a lot of rods and like to use factory spacing where possible. Sometimes I upgrade the guides over factory for my own taste and needs. The rod is wrapped in hunter green nylon thread and gold trim. The rod casts beautifully with any good level wind reel. In my case I used a Penn International Salmon reel. I've used this rod from a boat or from the bank and it has a lot of line control for just about any size Salmon or Steel head. I like fiberglass because of it's durability over graphite ... morein casting rods. A lot of people prefer Graphite for it's sensitivity and light weight but this rod comes in at 2.3 oz completely built and is every bit as sensitive as any graphite I've owned thanks to the great engineering of the people at Sage. Although there is some finish checking on the wraps they are still firm and solid. If this is undesirable a buyer could de-wrap the windings a half a guide at a time and apply fresh thread and epoxy and have really beautiful rod that could be worth several times the asking price considering the cork handle and the blank this rod is built on. I have up for auction a casting rod I made for Steelhead fishing. It is built on a 9 foot Sage casting rod blank and for some reason the logo isn't there. But I may have covered it with my handle cork when I was putting the rod together as I like to make my handles a little longer. However anyone who knows sage products can tell by color and material texture that it is a Sage blank. This rod has a Fuji trigger style nylon and graphite composite reel seat built over grade A cork with a hand machined delryn butt cap. The rod has 8 spiral foot Fuji ceramic guides with a Fuji ceramic tip. The guides and tip are wound with a storm cloud gray nylon thread with gold tinsel trim. There is a lot of painstaking work into this rod as is easily seen in the wrapping, trim and epoxy work. This rod is really light for as heavy duty a rod as it is.
