And as the eldest of nine children, he was used to working a crowd from his earliest days. His father played piano with a number of bands throughout the city, which may account for Richie’s innate talent. New York City was the nexus of the doo-wop movement, and Richie organized a number of street-corner singing groups in the Fifties. As the Fifties closed, though, the performer set his sights on the bohemian lure of Greenwich Village. Vintage Lighting 1970s style bentwood style semi-flush mount ceiling lamp probably made by Forecast. The chandelier is in the bentwood style. Which was popular in the 1970s. However, the fixture is not actually bent wood, but molded plastic. The fixture looks like wood. There are three glass globes. And these sit in silver dishes. The original ceiling canopy(not shown) is included. The fixture"wooden" circle is 12"wide. And the whole light is approx. 18"wide. The height overall is 12-inches including globes. It was issued through the dealer H. Kellogg in Hudson. Michigan(name on front cover) Dimensions are 5 X 8 ½” with 48 pages. Note the nice color covers. All the things that the old almanacs had, like, Care of manure in winter, plus a generous supply of Studebaker advertising- most all of it for their horse drawn line of vehicles. Some of the particularly notable items in this issue include the photos on the inside back cover of the original Studebaker blacksmith shops in Gettysburg. PA and Ashland Co. Ohio, image#3 above) an ad for the Studebaker Jr. child’s goat wagon(image#4 above) as well as others. Also interesting I think is ... morethe fact that the calendar for 1912 is the same as the one for 2013! Walter Flanders(3 rd Vice president) has an extensive article about the automobile vs the horse in which he states. The automobile has not, and never will, take the place of the horse. Well, no one is right all of the time. These almanacs were issued by Studebaker between 1900 and 1919. Finding them in good condition is rare. This one a 7.5 on a 10 pt scale. These 3 vintage green Forecast Sears brand suitcases are in great shape from the 1950's and 1960’s! The largest wardrobe overnight measures roughly 27L" x 8W" x 19H” The carry-on measures roughly 21L" x 7W" x 17H” They both have 2 pouches in the bottom and a soft divider in the lid. The smaller train/make-up case measures close to 14.5L" x 9W" x 10H" It has a pouch in the front bottom. A mirror in the lid and a tray. These cases could be used for a number of things besides luggage. A very popular use is for camera equipment or speciality tools. By installing foam packaging and cutting it to fit your camera or tools is a stylish and less expensive way to protect and transport. These type of cases can also be used for decor such as end tables. Shipping includes insurance and a delivery confirmation. Delivery ... moreconfirmation is not a tracking number. It is there to prove delivery. I usually ship suitcases by wrapping in shipping paper and taping. This cuts costs by not using boxes. These cases are sold as is. I will do my best to describe them as well as any imperfections and wear. These cases all have minor scuffs and wear on the inside and the outside. These are vintage and used so there will be minor stains and odors that come along with any old item. It is common for the fabric on the inside to come away from the outside hard shell due to time and heat breaking down the adhesive. Some cases can fit inside each other as some can't. I have two of these matching mid century cases sold separately These train cases make fun stylish storage. It is made of a textured white vinyl or plastic type material. These were sold by Sears. There is a silver tone metal oval decal that says. Forecast" on the front. Inside is a plastic lift out divided tray. It also has a mirror attached to the lid. It is in overall very good vintage condition. There is slight wear. The mirror is in good shape but does show some aging as would be expected on a vintage piece like this. This Vintage Forecast brand train case is very cool. Outside is of a bright textured vinyl with a stainless hinged push in/pull out clasp in the center. Handle is hard textured plastic in the middle of top. 4 feet are molded in the plastic on the bottom. A band of ribbed silver toned metal goes around top. Up for auction is a vintage Swiss made Hamilton rotating"Forecast 66 26 29" clock. The clock has a barometer. Temp and hygrometer on each side of the 360 degree swiveling cube. Stands 5 1/2" high, 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" Each side face is 3" x 2 1/4" The clock is a battery operated movement and is working. The temp works, I don't know how the hygrometer and barometer should work, so I cant say that they are or aren't working accurately. The clock has good weight at just under 4 pounds. This Black Americana figurine has become a vintage collectible. Diaper Dan" was manufactured by Multi Products. Inc. Chicago, and bears the copyright of 1949. It is made of pressed wood with original thermometer( thermometer is missing) This piece measures 5-1/2" tall, and 3-1/2" at the widest part. This little boy was known as"Diaper Dan the Weatherman" This item, generally marketed as a souvenir, was not only a thermometer, but was sensitive to humidity, and once functioned as a weather forecasting tool. As the weather changed, Dan's diaper would change from a blue color in dry weather, to pink as the air became damp. The original tag and instructions are no longer present, but from another that I have seen previously, I gleaned the following information: The instruction on the tag was to set Dan near an open ... morewindow. 19th century Lennie barometer with 'Hurricane' forecast
This is a quite unusual 19th century barometer. In that among the normal forecasts one expects to see on an aneroid barometer, is the word'Hurricane' Dating to around 1880. The white enamel dial is signed'E. Lennie. Optician, Edinburgh' who retailed the barometer. This would be Eliza Lennie who succeeded her optician husband James Lennie who died in 1854. The white enamel dial is in exceptional condition. With a bevelled glass crystal which has some superficial surface scratches, but these are only noticeable on close inspection. In full working order and good original condition. The brass case is free from dents with a nice patination. It measures 5" 125 mm) at its widest point.
