Vintage Square Steel Fishing Rod & Reel Pfleuiger w Patent Papers 1930s
Vintage rod and reel with copy of patent papers for the rod and reel locking mechanism. The rod is a True Temper with some unique features. It has the patented“Speedlock” fishing-rod handle. This method of attaching the reel to the rod was patented in 1925 with patent number 1534674. I have a copy of the original patent papers and drawings and will include them. The rod itself has a patent number 1755159; issued in 1930. This patent was for a metallic casting fishing rod possessing qualities of strength and flexibility. Rod is made of square steel tapered from handle to tip. Line guides are red glass in a brass support and attached to the rod with wrapped fine copper wire. The tip eye is missing and repairs attempted(see photo) Overall length of the rod is 55” I also have patent papers and drawings for the rod. These rods were all turned into St. Croix for warranty and are all broken to some degree. This is a large lot with lots of high end components. Lots of Fuji guides and reel seats, Batson guides, and enough cork and complete handles to keep you busy for months. While going through the lot I found several rods that can be made into functioning rods with just a tip top, or some other work. St. Croix sells these re-tip rods at the factory for $30 a crack! Not to mention all the guides, reel seats, cork, and graphite that can be harvested for new rods and repairs. This is a used Aftco#6 130 to unlimited class rod butt with a Varmac RS 6H reel seat. No collet. I used to epoxy the rod blank in the butt itself making it a one piece rod. Not designed to make into a 2 piece rod. Butt looks almost new I epoxied the seat but nevere built the rod.

Here is a wooden rod building and wrapping unit. This unit is 24 inches long and it expands to 41 1/2 inches long. It is 12 inches tall. All the pieces slide, some of the felt is loose. A little clean up and this is ready to be used and put to work. This comes with a Fenwick Rod builders catalog 1984 and a fiberglass rod making book 1974. Nice Homemade Fishing Rod Repair Tool
Here is a very cool time saving device to repair missing or loose eyelets from your fishing poles. Just install the pole in the lathe like chuck. Plug it in and use the foot pedal to control the motor. It does not spin extremely fast, maybe 100 rpm. This homemade job works like a charm and doesn't cost what the sporting goods store asks.
