One has tags still on it the other does not. Both rods are in good condition with minor signs of wear. One rod measures 57" base to tip and the other measures 53.5" base to tip. And the box measures 4 inches long. This lure has no patina on metal parts. The box has yellowed from age but has no cracks and is still pliable. VINTAGE SOUTHBEND ALUMINUM SPUN CASTING ROD W/CANVAS CASE & SHAKESPEAR REEL
Up for auction is a vintage Southbend spin casting rod with a canvas case plus a Shakespeare casting reel. The case is in really good condition considering it's age. And will last many more years. The rod is made of solid spun aluminum. This combination is 71 years old. My grandpa bought it for me when I was 9. It breaks down at the handle. As the pictures show, and is 58-1/2" long with 4 ferrels. Each fellrel is wrapped, and there isn't any fraying. The reel is a 1960AS CRITERION DE LUXE level winding reel. It will accomodate 100 yards of line. Or 50 yards with the arbor in place. There a adjustable casting drag knob. One handle is missing. A matching one could be found in a repair shop I'm sure. The original box is there. The original small care booklets and instruction sheets explaining how to remove and attach the arbor ... moreand line is there plus the ley to remove the handle and separate the arbor. The rod shows almost no wear. The cork handle is dirty with a few. And could be cleaned if the buyer knows how to do it. The reel has a few scratches. This antique reel was gently used only a few times. Pops loved to buy fishing gear but seldom went fishing. The box is in fair condition. The reel is in perfect shape.
