For sale at a buy it now fixed price is this vintage tooled leather fly wallet. It is a classic. With the felt leaves for holding your flies. Right out of an old Denver estate, this is as found. I would guess the wallet is from the 1940s or 1950s. The flies are all snelled wet flies, the flies most commonly used at the time. Most of the flies look to be about size 12 and there is a variety of different flies, with very few that are the same pattern. We count 80 flies but there might be one or two more or less. Up for your consideration. I have a vintage leather fly wallet developed in 1877 by"Major" Wakeman Holberton. Born in N.Y. City in 1839, he was educated in N.Y. and Europe. During the civil war he fought as a member of the"Sickles Brigade" After the war ended, he took up sketching and painting fishing/hunting subjects. Major" Holberton, at one time was ranked as the best of American Fly-casters. He made several journeys to Newfoundland and Labrador to hunt caribou and he fished in most every famous trout streams/lakes in America. He was also a N.Y. tackle dealer( Sportsman's Emperium) selling top of the line hunting, fishing, camping equipment etc. He married the daughter of Thomas S. Cummings an artist, with whom he had two sons. He died in Hackensack, N.J. in 1898. As you can see from two of the photos, he was ... morean accomplished artist! He was also an Author and in 1887 wrote"The Book Of Angling" How And where To catch Fish. This fly wallet contains 35 hooks and three gut leaders. The leather seems soft and pliable not brittle. All the hooks with the exception of three are in very good condition! It appears that the three hooks in question, were used to tied a fly. There are also( 6) single wire barbless hooks that were patented( pat. 196648) in Oct. 30, 1887 by Mr. Butler Edgar. Hooks size range from#1 thru 1/0 and 6/0 on the Edgar's. Very old high quality leather wallet for lures. Full of actual lures. My father says it could be as old as the 1930s. As belonged to my late Grandfather. All appear to be old and hand made. I know very little on this subject, Some are very small, some are large, all have hooks. ARMY NAVY HARDY STYLE FLY WALLET FLY FISHING
Unusually large English fly wallet measuring 7" x 4 1/2' x 2" in excellent plus condition. Leather is still quite supple. Strap is excellent. Comparing it to multiple Hardy fly wallets in this collection. It appears to be made by the same makers. No doubt copying was alive and well as it is today, but it so close in appearance to a Hardy wallet, until you see the label it is for all intents and purposes a Hardy. Everything in photos stays with the wallet with the exception of the ring used as a scale. The Ellery Arms package is cool and rare.

Vintage Leather Fishing Fly Holder, Wallet, Case, with 20 Flies
Found in Maine. This nice old case is made of leather with sheep’s fur to hold the flies. Laid horizontally, it is 3 1/4 inches tall and 7 1/4 wide. The flies are all streamers, mostly for landlocked salmon, and most of them have second trailing hooks coming off them. Personally, I always start with the woolly bugger. CONDITION: Excellent.
