The hard rubber on the rear plate spins inside the german silver outer ring. I think the hard rubber may have shrunk a bit over the last 100 yrs and it just doesnt seat as well as it did. I thought about putting a bit of epoxy on the edge to secure it but I thought I leave it alone since I didnt want to ruin anything. There are no cracks in the hard rubber. I did clean it with soap and water but it has not been polished or scrubbed. You are buying it as is- my description is very accurate. I think I have pointed out its flaws well. Made between 1947 and 1952 and super rare especially in this condition. It looks as if it were only fished a few times. Includes original cloth sack in great condition and the original aluminum tube in really good condition. The rod casts a Cortland 4 weight DT Sylk fly line beautifully. I have this same rod that I fish with and it handles 4-5 lb fish easily. All sections are equal length. Straight as an arrow, reel seat functions and is like new, ferrules are perfect. If you want a 7 1/2 footer to fish or put in your collection buy it now cause it won’t last long. All the wraps look great. The cork looks really good with only some dirtiness from honest use. Varnish is really nice with only a couple minor flaws from use and starting to turn darker from age. This is one heck of a great looking rod and it is ready to fish as is. This rod. For those that don't know is positioned as an upper mid-grade rod and used bamboo that was not quite good enough for the Registered and Deluxe but better than the Special, and way better than the Victory or Champion. The 7 ½’ length makes for a great little rod on smaller spring creeks capable of handling fish up to 4-5 lbs. It's pretty light, impressive. Don't you want to be the guy on your fishing trip this year showing off what an OLD Granger can do? This rod will be expertly packaged and shipped insured to your location. I am an honest seller. And my goal is to put these rods and reels back on the rivers and streams to be used rather than collect dust. Was a friends gandpas, i don't know the age of the split bambo fly rod. the Butt piece is about 38-1/2" the middle section is the same as the butt. One of the tips is 34-1/4 inches& the other tip is 31-1/2 inches. Also has 2 canvas storage socks, one for the tip sections& one holds all pieces including aluminum brass tube tip container, tube about 39 inches. The pieces have not been put together in a long time, i put one piece one a little bit and it was to tight to completely slide on because a grease like protective lubricant has waxed up. so i decided not to put the rest of the rod together& allow the new owner of this rod to clean the fittings& re-lubricate the fittings, Thus i cannot tell you the ... moreassembled length of the rod. i pulled the piece back apart of course& the good popping sound was heard when i seperated them, this is good, it looks to me like all the pieces fitting will clean up nicely& fit snuggly after proper work. Up for bids is a beautiful vintage 8'6" 3/1 bamboo fly rod. Rod maker unknown- no ID present upon examination. It is super straight with a superb finish and appears that all parts are original. Most likely redone- but do not know rod's history. It has the old rattan grip and unusual tip which may indicate from the 1930s? My knowledge on these is limited so if you have any input it would be appreciated. I try and describe to the best of my ability. Pictures are hopefully the most informative for you- and my best ally for describing the rod- please view carefully. All the guides and wraps are present. Tight and without flaws. Ferrules fit well and have the distinct pop when separated. Hook keeper also present. I would guess the wallet is from the 1940s or 1950s. The flies are all snelled wet flies, the flies most commonly used at the time. This is an aluminum fishing lure box for flies. It measures 6 1/4" X 3 1/4" There are 5 flies in the box. I believe all hand made. see pics) The condition is good. Shows signs of wear but the lid still closes with a snap. My knowledge about fishing lure is minimal so the pictures will have to tell it all. All my fishing lure listings were found in an old tackle box that was originally from the 40's. Some some of the lures could be very old. Check out my other listings. Up for your consideration. I have a vintage leather fly wallet developed in 1877 by"Major" Wakeman Holberton. Born in N.Y. City in 1839, he was educated in N.Y. and Europe. During the civil war he fought as a member of the"Sickles Brigade" After the war ended, he took up sketching and painting fishing/hunting subjects. Major" Holberton, at one time was ranked as the best of American Fly-casters. He made several journeys to Newfoundland and Labrador to hunt caribou and he fished in most every famous trout streams/lakes in America. He was also a N.Y. tackle dealer( Sportsman's Emperium) selling top of the line hunting, fishing, camping equipment etc. He married the daughter of Thomas S. Cummings an artist, with whom he had two sons. He died in Hackensack, N.J. in 1898. As you can see from two of the photos, he was ... morean accomplished artist! He was also an Author and in 1887 wrote"The Book Of Angling" How And where To catch Fish. This fly wallet contains 35 hooks and three gut leaders. The leather seems soft and pliable not brittle. All the hooks with the exception of three are in very good condition! It appears that the three hooks in question, were used to tied a fly. There are also( 6) single wire barbless hooks that were patented( pat. 196648) in Oct. 30, 1887 by Mr. Butler Edgar. Hooks size range from#1 thru 1/0 and 6/0 on the Edgar's. It looks like the box could be a RICHARD WHEATLEY FLY BOX? It is very well build and closes solidly. Notes on the condition: The brown paint on the exterior of the case is chipped and scratched with some minor rust spots. a few of the fly retention clips are slightly'sprung' and may need to be bent pack into place with some small needle nose pliers or hemostats. Vintage Mallochs Fly Tin This auction is for a vintage fly tin made by Mallochs of Perth. This black japanned fly tin measures 4 3/4 x 3 1/8 x 1/2 inches. It opens up to reveal 24 clips.Of a size suitable for large Trout Flies or Salmon Flies. The outer finish shows wear in places as you would expect from an old item. But the wear is mostly to the edges,going down to the base metal on a couple of corners. The faces of the tin show light markings,some light scratches and a couple of small dents. Internally the light blue finish is generally very good. The loss of finish and light corrosion stains occur around the very edges of the tin. And where the hooks have been sat in their clips. This auction is for a Perrine#60 fly box. This fly fishing box includes 11 vintage fly lures. It is made from aluminum. So the case will not crack or split, and is exceptionally light to carry. Ventilation holes prevent wet or dry rot of flies that you store. The case measures approximately 3 3/4” long by 2 5/8” wide by 3/4” deep. Including the flies within, it weighs only 2 ounces. The exterior of the case has some small scratches and abrasions. But the hinge still works perfectly, the case shuts tightly, and the interior looks great. Vintage FYE Chest Pack Fly Box 2 Drawer
here is a vintage. Classic, FYE fly box. hand made in Holidaysville, Pa. these boxes were made by Ronald Fye from 1948 to 1960. FYE is stamped on the back of the box and may be lightly visible in the 2nd picture) FYE boxes are the forerunner of the"Richardson Fly Box" that is still available from PA. a new"Richardson" of similar configuration would be $200. the box measures(approx) 6 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 2 1/4" and has the original chest harness. this classic box features all aluminum construction and 16 cork lined fly compartments. it is in good shape to use or collect and works perfectly. some of the original rivets appear to have been replaced and there are some chips in a couple of pieces of cork. please look at the pictures. Vintage Leather Fly Fishing Rod Holder Case Leather Fitted double opening ends This is a beautiful vintage leather fly fishing rod holder. It has fitted ends that both open& secure with straps. The handle seems to be a shade lighter than the rest of the case(not sure if replaced or not) Beautiful mahogany color and the brass colored metal hardware has a real nice subtle patina. This has a couple of compartments. On the one end there is a 7' deep well and the other side tapers down to a 2" by 1 1/4" holder(at the other end) This leaves plenty of space for your other accessories in the bottom compartment. There are a couple of marks where it looks like something was wrapped around the case holding the tabs more secure where they connect with the handle. You can see the discoloration in the picture. The entire piece measures ... more28" tall by 6 1/4" by 4" It weighs 5 1/4 pounds. This came from Keuka Lake. It would say it dates anywhere from the 1920's through the 1940's. This needs some TLC in the form of a conditioner for the leather. It still has pliable straps. verything is quite solid. Very beautiful piece. Vintage Rex Richardson Chest Fly Box! - RARE!! - w/900 Flys!! - Works Fine!!
This is an original Rex Richardson Chest Fly Box! I purchased it new in the 70's. And I had to stop fishing about 10 yrs ago. It has SIX trays of varied depth. It is in full working order. And also has about 900 dry flies in it! First. I'll provide some history about Richardson Chest Fly Boxes(used by Presidents Eisenhower and Carter) and then I'll describe this particular box and the flies that are in it. Mr. Richardson made many improvements to the box over the years utilizing the recommendations from his customers and produced the box with such quality as to achieve world-wide renown. Joe Humphreys, Presidents Ike Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter, Dan Bailey Sr. Joan Wulff and Charlie Meck to name just a few. Rex continued to build the box, each custom handcrafted, until his death at the age of 80 in September of 1995. Rex Richardson was one of flyfishing's greatest craftsmen and a special friend to all who know him. This particular box is 6" wide. 6" deep and 5" high. It has six trays which appears to be a configuration no longer made. The two trays close to the chest are 1.25" deep, and the next four are.75" deep. The latter four trays are divided into 16 compartments, each being 1.5"x1.25" In the two deeper trays, two of those compartments are joined to make one 3" x 1.25" so there 15 compartments. The box is in excellent working condition. The hinges are fine; the copper snap tabs on the top of each compartment are fine; each compartment cover fits as it should and none of them is bent in any way; and there is no fraying of the shoulder straps.
