FLY ROD BUILD ON ST. CROIX SCv GRAPHITE 10ft.- 6 wt. BLANK
0 0 0 I build this rod for my own use in a pontoon or belly boat for lake fishing. With it’s 10 foot length and great backbone from the SCv graphite you can get a lot of line through the single foot Fuji guides that were used for less line drag. This would be also be a great streamer rod on medium and large rivers. The reel seat is uplocking and of nickel silver. I attached a small fighting butt. I am very impressed with the St. Croix blanks. They can handle a lot of line but also seem tolerant of the line weight. I have used 5. 6& 7 weight lines on the rod with good results. 0 0 0 The basis of this 9 FT. 5 wt.fly rod is a WINSTON PASSPORT Blank. These blanks were designed by Winston and manufactured in China. They were rated by many(Including the 2011 Yellowstone Anglers 5 wt shootout) as being the best budget fly rod available. Two complaints were the cheap cork used in the grip and the very budget reel seat. I used excellent Portuguese cork in the handle shaped into a Western grip. The reel seat is unlocking and nickel silver with a maple insert. I was a commercial rod builder for many years so I know how to finish a good rod. This rod is in very good condition. No rod bag or case is included.

Fisher Blank R L Winston Factory Fly Rod with Scrimshaw Reel Seat
Up for consideration is an early Fisher blank R L Winston Fly Rod. Made shortly after they moved from San Francisco. It is a 2 piece 7 weight 9' 6" length. With serial number 5561. It was made on August 21st, 1985. The condition is excellent for its age. Blank is nice and shiny. No scratches or issues other than the cork handle is a little dark from handling and age. Reel seat hardware is mint with no scratches. Does not come with rod sock or original tube. It does however come with a Filson rod case with bridal leather straps. The reel seat is bakelite and was engraved by well known scrimshaw artist Ginny Hall from Vancouver British Columbia. It shows a mayfly on a willow branch. The scrimshaw seat was a $200 option when made in 1985. I used this rod one time this past year, catching a 30" steelhead on the Anchor River here in Alaska. The serial numbers match. I have no intentions of ever using this rod again because of its rarity. The action is parabolic and you feel the fish into the handle. I said to myself I would never sale but my interests have changed and see no use of it just hanging on the wall in my den. Fiberglass fly rod 8’ 2pc on Phillipson blank
I believe this to be an old Orvis kit rod using the Fullflex blank. The early yellow Full Flex blanks that Orvis used were supplied by Phillipson. This one is fitted with the Reeder-McGill seat. Which was the standard seat for Orvis kit rods, and Foulproof Aetna guides, suggesting it was assembled sometime maybe in the early 70’s. The seat works just fine, the ferrules have no issues, and none of the guides are ready for replacement yet. The grip is the standard cigar profile used by Orvis in the early 70's. Wraps are still secure. There is a small scuff above the grip on the butt section. Full Flex rods in this length originally were spec’d for 7wt lines but you may do OK with a 6wt. These had the durability we all recall fiberglass rods for, and this would make a nice streamer rod. Whoever assembled this tried to carve out a thumb rest ... morelike on the Wes Jordan models but they never smoothed it out. If you have concerns about a brand name, I suggest not bidding. OK. This is my final rewrite for this rod. Decide for yourself what it is before bidding. It's yellow with nothing written on it. It's 8' long It has a Reeder-McGill reel seat. It has Aetna Foulproof guides It has no fractures There is a surface scuff on the butt section. There is a spot on the grip where someone carved out the cork for the caster's thumb. Up for auction is a 9ft 6inch 6 weight 4 piece Sage XP fly rod(696-4) with the original tube and blank warranty card. I glanced over this rod and found a few surface scratches on the rod(See pictures 5 through 8) These scratches are not in the graphite and does not affect the action of the rod. This fast action rod has been fished a few times and was used with my drift boat and float tube. The only reason I am selling this rod is because I have just replaced it with another 6wt rod. This has been a great rod and has served me well over the years. Additionally. Last year I sold a 9ft 6wt 4pc Sage XP and that rod sold for $360.00(including shipping) and it did not have a blank warranty card with it. Vintage Fenwick fiberglass fly rod blank, model FL96-7
Up for bid. Is a vintage fiberglass Fenwick fly rod blank with grip and reel seat already installed. Model FL96-7. Sold originally as a fenwick rodbuilder blank. This is a collectible Fenwick rod, 8' 2 piece tip over butt ferrule. Listed as a 7 weight. This rod was assembled previously and was so poorly done by the original owner that I bought it and removed everything down to the blank. Some ghosting where the previous guides were attached. Outside of this the blank is clean and ready for the new guides to be attached and epoxied. A great opportunity for a hobbyist builder to try finishing this rod- a great project. Based upon my inspection I’d have to say it would also cast a 6 wt line as well. Made in the 1960’s it’s in good condition. A super fine rod to fish for trout and smallmouth with.
