Here is a Custom built 9' 2 Pc fly rod. Sage blank, 5 wt rod, very nice rod! It measures the full length 9 ft long when assembled with each section being 55" long. The tip has never been broken and all the sections fit tightly with no slack and the rod looks great. I had a terrible time getting good photos that depict the details of the rod and I tried several different settings. The rod is a very dark brown color. If you need better pictures email me and if the snow melts I will take some pictures in natural light, it should show up better. The cork is dirty and I did not try to clean it but it should clean up nice. You will like this rod especially in smaller and midsize streams. I would guess it was made using a Fenwick blank. I had this rod out last weekend and cast it head to head with my mid-1980s Fenwick 8'6" HMG graphite rod for comparison. The performance of this rod is identical, using both WF6 and WF5 floating lines. It throws a nice medium loop as you would expect from a Fenwick, using both standard and double haul casting techniques. The blanks are the same color, and the wrappings are nicely done in a dark burgundy or brown color, that suits the rod well. As you can see, the rod inscription also says"Special H. F. Guja" which could be the rod builder or the customer's name. The rod comes with a nice tan ... morefaux leather travel case which as two PVC tubes inside that perfectly fit the 8'6 rods dimensions. The rod builder did nice job on this one using flex coat over the windings, in the Fenwick style. I personally own four other Fenwick HMGs including an 8'5" 5wt. The 6wt discussed above, that I use for trout, panfish, and bass, as well and two heavy duty 9" 8wt and 10wt rods with fighting butts for larger Pike and Muskies. This would be a great rod for any type of light or medium size trout. Bass, or panfish streams and lakes and will provide plenty of backbone for anything but the longest casts. Vintage Fenwick Fly Rod Measures 81 1/4" with 6 Eyes Custom? Blank? Built Well
Here is a vintage used Fenwick blank fly rod that is in pretty good condition. This may have been custom made. All the eyes and threads as still intact. The cork looks to be in good condition and it looks that its been made pretty well. The rod itself when pieced together measures 81 1/4 inches in length. CUSTOM? Also there is a total of 8 eyes on the rod, 2 on the lower part and 6 on the 2nd piece or end of rod. They all look to be made really well, I would assume it was made in USA. I would date this rod back to somewhere around the early 1980s, but just my guess. The only minimal flaw to it, is that it when put together it appears there is a small(very minimal) bend to the 2nd piece. Looks like it perhaps been leaning up against a wall for a little while in storage. This is only minimal and when you look down the rod straight. For sale is a very nice“Powell Companion” 3 Piece/2 Tip, 9’ Fly Rod. Built on a Fisher"Natural" graphite blank with a Powell reel seat this is one of the series of“Powell Companion” kit rods distributed out of Chico. California. This rod was made from one of the kits by the late John Williams. A noted Northern California fly fisherman who occasionally taught fly tying classes at Henry’s Fork and made beautiful rods in his spare time. This particular rod is 9’ in length with 2 tips. One a 5 wt and the other a 6 wt. The use of 2 tips of different specifications was the idea behind this series of rods. Each section of the rod is just over 55” in length. This rod was custom made from the very sought after FFL 108-8 Fenwick blank that was sold in 1974 according to the catalogs. Chances are this was made for Salmon fishing. But I have no idea. Eyes are in great shape and the reel retainer is a screwing wedge type with a wedding band back up lock. This is a nice rod but does show some wear. Rare Fiberglass 4 pc Travel Fly Fishing Rod 7 Foot Russell Rods Phillipson Blank
For sale at a buy it now fixed price is this very hard to find fiberglass fly fishing rod. Made to compete with the smuggler rods of the time it is a 4 piece 7 foot rod. It is a custom rod made by Don Russell Custom Rods of Arvada(a suburb of Denver) back in the day. Like many of their rods this was made with components from local rod makers at the time. I believe that this is a Phillipson blank with a Phillipson reel seat. Custom wraps, and the very high end ferrules that use rubber o rings for a secure fit. With the custom wraps and snake river eyes this is a very attractive rod. It comes the way we got it.in a modern Cabellas Stowaway rigid tube covered with water resistant cordura and the rod sack that went with it. Both are a perfect fit for the rod. Like most custom rods. And in fact most Phillipson rods the appropriate fly line to ... moreuse is not marked on the rod. In my backyard I can throw a WF-4-F with the rod but I can tell that it is not the appropriate line. However, both the WF-5-F and the WF-6-F lay out wonderfully with this rod. Condition is used. There is a little wear on the case but not much. The rod itself is in terrific condition.no repairs. No damage.the windings, eyes and seat are good. There is a little oxidation on the cork as you see but we see no damage to the cork and no hook picking on the cork. This is a vintage case that holds a Horrocks Ibbotson 8 ft. 3 peice bamboo fly rod. Under the varnish that the makers sticker sits atop is"Beaverkill" in cursive. This rod is missing 4 eyelets. I received this pole in the wood box pictures with the end of all wood box missing one end. The box served its purpose to protect the fly rod. This box had 10 old flies in the cork as they look to have been there since they were tied. The end of pole is missing eyelet. Sage SP 586-3 Fly Rod Original Tube / Sock and Blank Warranty Card
Sage SP 586-3 fly rod. 3 piece with original tube and sock and blank warranty card. Will not waste time describing the Sage SP series. This rod is used. I have used it once, not sure of usage before that. Shows little signs of use on the ferrules,if any. A few scuff marks show up in the rod finish, these would not even show in photos. No scratches that I have seen. Cork is excellent, maybe a little dirt stains. Guides are excellent. Tube has a few scuffs and dis coloring, sock is good no holes/ tears. I would rate the rod 9 of 10. This Sage was a Birthday gift. Bought on consignment through a local Fly Shoppe back in 1992. The rod blank has no info, and I'm only relaying what was told to me. This rod is not factory built. It was used when I got it, and used as my back up until two years ago. I have cast both an 8wt. 9wt. floating lines, and prefer the 8wt. for better balance. You are buying a 9' Bamboo Fly Rod. This is a vintage rod that was a work in progress when my dad passed away. This is rod has been stripped of varnish and is ready for new guides and a varnish job. The grip and ferrules appear to be in good shape and ready for your finshing touches. This looks like a vintage rod probably from the 1950s I have no idea of the brand and there are no markings I see. Also includes the bag and a tube to protect the rod. Nice custom built fly rod using a fiberglass Lamiglas blank. Black anodized REC reel seat and matching black Hopkins& Holloway guides. Blank is 2 pc, 9 ft for a 7 or 8 weight line with tip over butt ferrule. End cap on seat is removeable if you want to add a fighting butt(not included. Grip is individual rings glued to blank and turned on a lathe. I fished this rod only once so it shows little or no use. Nice smooth progressive action- perfect for steelhead, bass, large browns or small stripers. No tube or sock but I will pack carefully and ship in PVC tube. Shipping to continental US will be $10. It is left blank with only the(R) on it. They still are able to use the tag because the tab itself is the trademark. So, this makes the jeans Rare because not many jeans have this kind of tab. Vintage Levi 501"XX" on tag means it was made with the top of the line denim manufactured by the Cone Mill fabric company. The highest weight and quality of denim used at the time. Vintage Fenwick Feralite FF90 9' Custom Hand Made Fly Rod AFTMA Rare Blank
This rod has great action from that classic vintage Fenwick Feralite blank. It is hand made and the wrap job was done by an amateur but is a beautiful rod. The serial number is I36922. This rod was very lightly fished showing marks where the rod was put together and taken apart and a small chip in the top of the cork. I see a couple small blemishes in the finish and have too look very hard to find them and will point them out in the photos. I have Acquired a large purchase of Vintage Fishing Equipment. 8wt Redington Path Fly Rod 890-4 With A Blank Warranty Card
This is a lightly used Redington path 8wt. It's been used about 8 times over the corse of a few months. One time in saltwater for reds. And several other times in freshwater for large bass. I never sent in the warranty card, which works out for whoever buys this because they'll be able to register as the owner for the lifetime warranty. This is a great rod for both salt or freshwater uses. It is made to handle both and does the job well. The rod will be shipped in a hard cardboard tube.
