A rarely encountered H. S. Pinky" GILLUM bamboo fly fishing rod. Cane. Bamboo rod is: GILLUM: nine foot. Two Piece, Two Tip rod. Original Gillum tube with decal, rod bag? not sure if bag original, but came with rod when I originally acquired. I never had opportunity to meet"Pinky" Gillum. Two individuals who I knew and respected. Harry Darbe and Marty Keane, had told me that it was a mark of Honor to own and Fish a Gillum rod. Over the years I have encountered and actually held and flexed only six Gillum rods. Gillum rods are that rare! Considering that less than 2000 Gillum rods were ever produced. Accounts for me not encountering that many. I was seeking a Bamboo rod to fish the Upper Delaware River system. Needed a stronger actioned rod capable of reaching out to Trout that always positioned themselves. Ten feet beyond comfortable ... morecasting range. Located this nine foot Gillum rod. Rod was usable, but I realized that varnish was not intact. Not wishing to damage rod by subjecting to water exposure I had my friend, the renowned Bamboo rod Rod maker, bamboo rod Historian and Restorer, George Guba, restore my Gillum rod to'Like New Condition' After Restoration. Rod looks New, I found that I was hesitant to fish the rod. I am aging, and I fall more often while wading. It would pain me to cause any damage to such a beautiful, rare and Valuable fly rod. H.S. GILLUM rod is a Two Piece. Nine foot rod. The rod is Stamped with the" H.S. Gillum, maker" marking on it's uplocking Reel seat( see pictures) Up locking reel seat has( I believe to be) African Mahagony wood spacer. Rod is wound in tan silk with black/cream/whitish? tipping, Just Beautiful. All sections are intact, NO invisible mends or wraps. Sage Z-Axis 490-2pc 9' 4 weight fly fishing rod no tip top
Great Sage Z-Axis 490(9 foot fly rod for 4 wt. line) 2 piece that has the very tip broken off. The rod was given to me a few years ago. I believe it was a demo rod from a shop in Montana, therefore it has no warranty. i think Sage will repair these rods without warranty for $100 or so. A guy(or gal) could epoxy on a new tip-top guide and the rod would probably cast just fine. I haven't got much use for the rod these days and could use a few bucks to help fund the next fishing trip. NO RESERVE AUCTION You are bidding on a beautiful like new original Wright McGill Granger Aristocrat GA7633. 7 ½ foot, 3.75 oz. 3/2 bamboo fly rod. 3 pieces with 2 tips. Made between 1947 and 1952 and super rare especially in this condition. It looks as if it were only fished a few times. Includes original cloth sack in great condition and the original aluminum tube in really good condition. The rod casts a Cortland 4 weight DT Sylk fly line beautifully. I have this same rod that I fish with and it handles 4-5 lb fish easily. All sections are equal length. Straight as an arrow, reel seat functions and is like new, ferrules are perfect. If you want a 7 1/2 footer to fish or put in your collection buy it now cause it won’t last long. All the wraps look great. The cork looks really good with only some dirtiness from honest use. Varnish ... moreis really nice with only a couple minor flaws from use and starting to turn darker from age. This is one heck of a great looking rod and it is ready to fish as is. This rod. For those that don't know is positioned as an upper mid-grade rod and used bamboo that was not quite good enough for the Registered and Deluxe but better than the Special, and way better than the Victory or Champion. The 7 ½’ length makes for a great little rod on smaller spring creeks capable of handling fish up to 4-5 lbs. It's pretty light, impressive. Don't you want to be the guy on your fishing trip this year showing off what an OLD Granger can do? This rod will be expertly packaged and shipped insured to your location. I am an honest seller. The threads are good and hold the reel tight. Two eyes are missing from the center section and there is a wrap of tape. I have no idea why it's there. When I bend the rod it does'nt give and is not broke. All the the other eyes are good and not bent. All the wraps are good. The ferrels slide good and are tight. There are two tips. The reel is in good shape and works as it should. The rod and the reel are not marked. Under the mount on the reel it says Japan. Comes with the fabric sleeve for the rod. Offered for sale is a Scientific Angler fly rod with a matching extra tip section. The rod is rated for 5/6 weight lines and is a two section 9 foot graphite fly rod. The rod was found with an perfectly matching extra tip- I didn't know that was available. Not sure of the exact vintage- The rod has a green color to it and that might help date the rod if you know vintage Scientific Angler fly rods. I think the rod is graphite but the only markings are Scientific Angler 9ft. 2 section Line wt. 5/6 The reel seat is stamped GRAPHITE G-16 The rod remains in EXCELLENT CONDITION with very light soiling on the cork handle from previous use. 100% original with no repairs on the butt section or either tip section. This fabulous"Hardy's" The Hardy Fly" rod is in good"as found" condition and it has not been restored or repaired by us. The rod measures 12 foot 6 inches. including the handle) in overall length. The butt and reel fittings are in brass, these have retained much of their original finish. It has"lockfast" joints. Which are a good snug fit, these too have retained much of their original finish. All of the rings are present and well attached, the top and bottom rings are agate lined, however, some do show signs of surface rust. The burgundy whipping is in good order and there is no crazing ... moreto the varnish but there are some small patches of discolouration. The top sections of the rod have a slight kinks or"sets" to the left. The rod does have a spare tip. The brass butt has"Hardy Bros. Makers, Alnwick" and the number"A16075" 1906) Just above the handle the rod has"Regd. Trademark Palakona" The hardy Fly" and"5" hand written in indian ink. The rod has its' original bag. The rod has a lovely feel when held. Well balanced, sturdy, and it has taken on a super depth of colour over the years. All in all this is a very nice. VINTAGE SPLIT CANE BAMBOO MOHAWK FLY FISHING ROD 9' WITH EXTRA TIP AND COVER
This is a very beautiful old SPLIT CANE BAMBOO fly fishing rod. It has THREE SECTIONS with an extra tip section. Assembled length is about 9 feet. The two tip sections are protected in a clothe sleeve in an aluminum tubing. The brown clothe bag has sewed pockets for each section and the tubing. The"MOHAWK" label is painted on the rod just above the cork handle and reel holder. This rod dates from the 1930's. There is no manufacture's label. But the"MOHAWK" name was famously used for many years by Horrocks-Ibittson, a large tackle manufacturer of days gone by. Excellent condition with no cracks in pole or eyelets. One tip section may have had the tip eyelet professionally repaired. A great addition to any collection or to your fishing tackle box. Wright McGill Granger Victory 8 1/2' Bamboo fly rod GV8642 4pc 2 tip excellent
This is a beautiful vintage Wright and McGill Granger Victory GV8642 three section 8 1/2' bamboo fly rod with an 2nd. Shorter tip that when used reduces the rod to an 8' 3-3/4" length. Sections are straight. Split and crack free and the ferrules and eyelets are tight(close up pic is a good example of all) The rod finish exhibits little wear and seems to have been lightly used. The rod handle handle lists the patent date of the rod as 4/12/1938. The sock is in good shape, has individual sleeves for each rod section and is free of holes. The hard cardboard case is in good shape but does not have a cap. This is a rare, hard to find treasure, one that is sure to be a pleasure to use on your favorite stream so don't miss out. Vintage four piece (two tip) cane bamboo fly rod / spinning rod combination
You are bidding on a very nice antique/vintage combination bamboo fly rod. There are four pieces. Three of the pieces go together to form an 8 foot fly rod. Using the other tip with the handle section creates a 64" spinning or casting rod. The cork is in good shape and would look nicer with a cleaning. All guides and thread are original. One guide is a bit loose and could benefit form some attention. The wood is in excellent condition with no cracks or breaks and the ferules are all tight. The rod is unmarked but it appears there was a decal of some sort that has since come off. No reserve. Don't let this one get away.

This auction is for a vintage Montigue Sunbeam 9 foot split bamboo fly rod with two tip sections and 4 section cloth case. This old fly rod is in good useable condition and could easily be completely restored. There is some wear on the decal. A crack in the male ferrule of the second section, a thread is coming loose on one of the windings on one of the tip guides and there is some corrosion on some of the guides. The cloth case has a hole in it. The rod measures one inch under 9 feet when assembled. Guaranteed old and original. Shipping is additional and will be added to the cost of the item. From the estate of a WWII veteran. His daughter told me this rod was one of the items he brought back from Japan. Although neither the rod or the box is marked. It is consistant with other Japanese rods I have seen. High quality construction, all the eyes are intact and the rod is in good vintage condition. It assembles to be a 9 foot rod. It is in great condition. You can use it or collect it. I have not thrown any line with it but it feels like a 4 or 5 weight to me. All four sections are their exact original length and nice and straight. No chips. Cracks, breaks, or repairs. The base section is 37-1/4 inches when the reel seat is threaded all the way back to take a fly reel. It is 36-1/2 inches long when threaded forward. Center section is exactly 36-1/2 inches. Both tip sections are also exactly 36-1/2 inches. Base section has one regular guide. Center section has 3 snake guides. Both tip sections each have 3 snake guides and their original tip tops. I am ... morenot an authority on fly rods but what I can tell you is that the rod measures 9 feet when assembled. This is measuring tip top to far end of the reel seat. I'm not sure where an official measurement stops on the base section? All the tip tops and guides are original as are their wrappings. Sockets and ferrules look great with no cracks. Corrosion, dents, or wear. They assemble for a nice and snug fit and make a perfect straight rod with no set or warp. Rod is beautifully marked under it's original finish"Wright& McGill" and"Granger Victory" The reel seat screws forward to lock the reel and this works fine. Nice and smooth. Cork looks great with nice original patina. One tiny chip out of cork. Reel seat is marked with"Made By The Wright McGill Rod CO Denver COLO USA" and also marked with the patent date and number. This part is worn and hard to read but the day is 12 and the year is 1938. The only condition I would mention is that one rod tip has slightly better finish than the other. The reel seat is in very good condition and has a reel foot impression in the cork. The rod is marked: Orvis Custom Impregnated 5' 4WT 1 3/4oz. I believe the rod was assembled by a well-known rod maker in Wisconsin who did a great job in making the rod. The rod includes a green rod sack and a black and brass rod tube. Vintage Phillipson Paragon Fly Rod 8 1/2ft, 3-1, 5 weight, extra tip
This is a very nice example of a Phillipson Vintage Bamboo Fly Rod. I'm calling this a 3 piece. 1 tip rod. There is a 2nd tip, but its about 6 inches short, so I don't give it much value. This is a 8 1/2 foot. 5 weight HDH rod, model 29 Paragon. I've read that 8 1/2 ft. Phillipson rods have excellent feel and action. reel seat, wrappings, ferules, pretty much everything is in fine condition. It has the original rod tube and bag. Bag looks almost new, but the cardboard tube is missing some paint. The grip is 90% perfect. You can see the only defect in the second picture. Overall, this is a very nice, all original, shiny clean, 60+ year old fly rod produced by a well known quality rod maker. Returns accepted within 7 days, buyer pays return shipping. Rod appears to have been restored at some point in the past. And was done beautifully. Comes complete with the original bag and hang tag. As well as the original Thomas labeled tube, which retains approximately 80% of the Thomas label. Absolutely beautiful dry fly trout rod has one of the finest tapers ever produced by the Thomas shop.
