Cane Fly rod built by Dave Cottengim of Lulbegrud Creek Fly Rods. This is a 2 pc 7'6" rod with one tip in excellent condition. Tip is correct length. Rod is straight side to side but there is a bit of a droop in the tip. The rod is unmarked as to line weight. Model, length. I'm told by the rods owner that it was purchased from Dave and is a 5 weight. There is no damage or repairs to the rod. Rod comes with aluminum tube and bag pictured. The bag is for a 2 tip rod. So I don't no if this rod originally came w 2 tips or it's the wrong bag. Please feel free to ask questions.

This is a very nice F. E. Thomas- 8'6" 3 piece- 1 tip fly rod. Comes with the original tube in very good shape, the sock doesn't look original. The bamboo part or the rod doesn't even have a scratch on it or a chip in the varnish. It looks so fresh and new, like it hasn't been used. Vintage ORVIS Impregnated Battenkill Split Cane Bamboo Fly Rod GBF8 Two Tip MINT
This is a vintage Orvis Impregnated Battenkill Split Cane Bamboo Fly Rod. It is in absolute near mint condition. I don't believe it has ever been fished with. It is a 2 piece with 2 section Tips. And stands at 8 feet in length, 4 3/8 oz, GBF(8) and serial# 62739. The serial# is not listed in the Orvis database, but according to the serial numbers just before and just after this serial number, it was built in 1971. The#s are clearly written on both tip sections and bottom section of the fly rod where the sections connect. This rod is very, very clean with perfect bamboo and NO splits, cracks, or scratches whatsoever, except for a little bit of excess glue on one side in between the first and second guide. The reel seat is perfect, and the cork grip is perfect and very clean. There is a hook keeper which is also perfect. All loop guides, ... morewrapping, and tips are perfect and mint condition. The first guide is very slightly leaning back, but this apparently was the way it was wrapped onto the rod because there is no appearance of any bending due to negligence. This auction is for a vintage wood South Bend 9 foot Fly Rod with the storage sleeve and tube. This pole is in excellent condition with the finish being in just as great of condition. The pictures are do not do this justice. The patina is just awesome and would make a great display piece. The cloth sleeve is in great condition with the original label still intact. The ink for the rod number has faded, but I think it says 56. You can still make out the 9 under the length. The hard cardboard tube is in great condition as well with the screw top. Vintage Heddon Pal Mark IV #8459 9' 8/9wt 2pc Fas-Tip Action Fly Rod, Tube, Sock
I just inventoried my fiberglass rod collection and discovered I have 2 8459s. The Mark IV is one of my favorite fiberglass rods from the late 1950's and 1960's. I have owned this Mark IV Fly Rod#8459 9" GBG GAF 8/9wt rod for for a couple of years. And it has been displayed in my heated office/fishing gear workshop the whole time. The rod is all original, the spring loaded aluminum reel seat is in great condition and indicates this is a late 1950's/early 1960's model. The original decal from the hardware store where it was originally purchased in Wylam, AL, outside of Birmingham, is still on the butt end of the rod, above the Heddon Pal script, and hook keeper. A picture is provided. A page from the 1959 Heddon Finer Fishing Catalog is shown in the last picture, and this rod is the top of their line. The walnut and faux ... moreivory inlay and cork grip are also in excellent condition. All guides, hook keeper,and ferrules are intact, as are the windings from tip to bottom of rod. The ferrels join together and come apart nicely, and the rubber o-ring is like new. This is clearly a vintage rod that has been carefully fished and cared for. The correct Heddon tube is include, and is in very good condition, but missing the top cap. The rod sack is original and in great condition as well. Honestly, I am only selling this because I don't need 2 Mark IV 8/9 wt rods at this time. I'd rather have someone else enjoy this one, as I have over the years. Here is some nice detailed information on the Heddon flyrods from the late 1950's and 1960's. Some of which was borrowed from a similar listing 8wt listed that sold for over $100 earlier in the year. In the late 1950's this rod was listed at $40.00 in the Heddon catalogs of that era. The Heddon Pal Mark Series fiberglass rods were introduced in 1959 and the Mark IV's were sold new in sporting goods stores during the late 1950s and 1960s. Custom wrapped fly rod Rainshadow 9'6" 7 wt with extra 5wt tip
I built this rod for fishing the Trinity River in northern California. So that I would have one rod to handle light action half-pounder fishing and adults. The base is a three-piece Rainshadow RX7 blank in the 9'6" 7wt configuration. I added a 5wt tip that is wrapped to match. The reel seat is a Struble, and the knurled end cap on the reel seat is epoxied in place, so I added a rubber fighting butt. This is a solid rod with medium fast action.

vintage orvis impregnated bamboo fly rod battenkill and original case sock 2 tip
This is a vintage orvis battenkill fly rod up for auction. The rod comes with its original metal case. And the sock is included. The rod has 2 tips. The case has a description and specific on it. But its kind of hard to read. I'll do my best here: the case says battenkill, and at serial it says 59542, whispch is the same as one of the tips say. It says at weight 3 7/8 I believe. Length says 7 1/2 2 piece. And the last label is something to do with test I believe, and there is a code. The code looks like ct-12 and then do-6. I am not sure if this means its a 6 weight fly rod or not. I can't read the last label hardly at all. The bottom section measures 45 1/2 inches. The rod seat is cork. And there is a significant piece of cork missing, see pic. The reel retainer works fine. I see no serial number painted on it anywhere, and it looks ... moreto have never been repaired. One tip section measures 44 inches. This one has no serial number on it. And I believe this one is the original tip section with the rod. I also see a metal repair that was made, and I believe orvis did it. Please see pic. The piece is still solid and intact. But, its shorter than the bottom section and the other tip, so I believe this was factory repaired. The second tip is painted with serial number 59542. And is 46 inches long. This tip section is lighter in colt as far as the bamboo is concerned. It also has a removable tip section, which the other does not. It appears as if this section may have been added later, maybe by orvis when the original section was repaired? I am not sure of this, but it looks consistent. The other 2 rods that don't have a number on them tell me this battenkill could be pretty old. All in all. This is a nice rod that has solid intact eyelids and threads, and I don't see any cracks or breaks. I stated the repair, but otherwise, its a nice vintage bamboo rod, and should make a nice addition to an enthusiasts or collector of bamboo fly rods. I am going to ship this rod in its case. Vintage 3-Piece Bamboo Fly Rod– 8’ 6” with extra tip. Each piece measures 35” The extra tip is slightly shorter and measures 33 5/8” I think it would cast a 5/6 wt line jus fine. I would describe this rod as being in very good– great condition. I am selling this because my original goal was to strip and refinished this rod to make it new rod. However. It is in such great shape, I think it would be a waste to refinish it. Couple of things: I am not sure who the manufacturer is. There are no labels. Ferrules are in great shape. Nice pop when you remove them, Cork grip looks new. Looks likered and gold/tan wraps, The full size tip does have a set to it. The wraps look very good. This is a very nice. Solid and beautiful early fly rod, it's a F. E. Thomas"DIRIGO" 9' 3/2. Rod has a nice finish on it, only a few places on it, shows signs of use and all wraps seems to be tight, has been well taken care of. The butt has a small dent on it beside the name DIRIGO, it has a number 3 inside the rings on the butt end. The total length of the butt piece is 36-1/4" and the mid section is 36-1/4" 1 tip is 36" and the other tip is 35" all pieces seems to be straight. The rod bag is in very good condition for it's age. Like those found on Hardy rods, that when located and fully screwed into position automatically line up the rings on both sections with the reel fitting on the bottom of the corks. Both end sections slide in easily and firmly without trouble and, just as important, come apart just as simply! The nickel(I think) rings are in good shape and certainly original with little if any tarnishing with the first and end rings having ceramic inserts with no groove wear(another reason for thinking it dates from around the 1920s) Whether the varnish is original could be open to debate as. Although both the end sections are immaculate, I noticed, when arduously counting the whippings, that there is a very small imperfection in the varnish, on the butt section, probably having been touched while drying. Vintage Heddon Pal Mark II #8353 7 1/2' 5wt Fas Tip Action Fly Rod - Mint
I honestly have too many fly rods. Some say the 7' and 7 1/2' 5 wt fiberglass Heddons from the early 1960s are the holy grail of vintage fiberglass rods. I have owned this Mark II Fly Rod#8353 7'6" 5wt rod for for a a year or two. And it has been stored in my heated office/fishing gear workshop the whole time. The rod is all original, the black aluminum reel seat is in great condition and indicates this is a early 1960's model. The cork grip is in excellent condition. All guides, hook keeper,and ferrules are intact, as are the windings from tip to bottom of rod. This rod shines when you look at the brown fiberglass and the red and black silk windings. The ferrels join together and come apart nicely, and the rubber o-ring is like new. This is clearly a vintage rod that has been carefully fished and cared for. A vintage ... morenon Heddon rod sock is included. The rod tube is a period correct Heddon Pal Mark II black tube with red rubber cap, but is from a longer model. So the rod is has been well protected over the years. Here is some nice detailed information on Heddon flyrods from the 1960's. Some of which was borrowed from a listing that sold for over $100 earlier in the year. The Heddon Pal Mark Series fiberglass rods were introduced in 1962 and the Mark IV's were sold new in sporting goods stores during the 1960's and'70s. And also fifty(50) years old this year and are still in great demand by collectors all over the world. They were offered in Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and the Mark IV models. All of these rods were made in Casting, Spinning and Fly Rod configurations. The Mark II's were considered the"Middle the Line" and were easily recognized by the distinctive American red and black windings, and black reel seat. This rod reminds me of my Black Beauties from the 1950's as I believe Heddon carried on that motif with this rod. This Rod is from the beginning of the hollow fiberglass era. How many fiberglass rods have you seen with 2 tips. This was a Conolon Blank as all hollow Fiberglass Rods From the 50.S were. The Rod was marked Simon Streamaster which is a name I did not recognize but think it came from Oakland Simon Hardware store but not positive about that. The Rod is overall in very Good Condition and casts beautiful. I do see a little glue on cork at base of we're pole meets handle but that's the only bad I see. Overall a great rod with History behind it and it is a heck of a quality fly rod to fish with. Actually hate to see it go but can't keep everything I like. If I did I would never sell anything.
