This nice vintage 9' split bamboo rod is by an original"Adirondack" made by Horrocks- Ibbotson. Utica, New York. The condition is very nice with no loose eyes or connectors.no loose threads.it has an extra tip section as shown in the photos which matches the other tip section except slightly different eyes. Overall, very nice with light wear.it looks like it may have been re-coated with light varnish many years ago, there are a couple of small glitches in the varnish where it touched something(look at foto 9) which are negligible. The bamboo rod is wrapped tightly every 1 1/2" I can find no cracks or splits anywhere in the bamboo. When the 3 pieces are connected it has great whip motion.very smooth. Felt pouch or tube so I am not 100% sure who the manufacturer is but was represented to me as a Shakespeare rod but I do believe it's a Montague. Very well-cared for by its previous owner and seldom fished. This crisp loading, lightweight, fast-action fly rod shows only a faint few nominal signs of trace cosmetic wear and tear in the expected high traffic areas. For your convenience, please refer to the photos above and the inspection results below, for further item details. Handle/Grip: Cork displays a slight hint of light staining from previous handling. But remains overall, pleasantly free from any major chips, gouges, or excessive missing fill. Reel-Seat: Up-locking skeleton seat still looks handsome and shiney as it did new. Remains sturdily fastened, and still functions perfectly as well. Rod Blank: A close inspection from tip to butt reveals the expected minor scuffs and light scrapes in the typical places. On the tube it states that this item has come from the USA and further research has confirmed this. The tube has other details ref the model number but that also has worn away. Normark Speed tip fly rod
Vintage Normark speed tip fly rod 9ft 6 inches long. This rod was custom built by Scott Tackle in Bristol in the early 1980s they were a rare 9/10 rated rod for distance bank fishing on large waters like Chew. The rod will cast a shooting head in to a head on wind with ease or put out a full length fly line with ease. the top couple of inches between the tip ring and second ring is reinforced this rod was only the second one Scott tackle ever made the following ones were fitted with different tips and never performed as well. The rod performs well when playing fish and does not have the poker like action of other distance rods.

The matching wraps suggest this is from a circa 1950's Japan rod. Excellent guides and ferrules. Only real flaw is the spiral wraps(between intermediates) on one flyrod tip have a couple of spots unraveling, see photos. A nice find for you bamboo rod builders. These rods were sold as 2 piece/1 tip rods and you could buy an extra tip if you wanted or needed. Apparently the person who owned this rod did that. As it appears they broke one tip and ordered a replacement. I am including the broken tip, which is approximately 6” shorter than the other tip, but has been professionally repaired. This rod is in very good. Original condition with snake guides, tight windings, metal ferrules and a cork handle that is intact. The color in the handle indicates use over the years. I don’t know much about Herter’s rods but as I understand it they used blanks and parts from other makers to put their rods together. In the absence of any markings on the rod. I have been professionally advised that this rod would be considered a DT5 rod. This rod is in very nice condition with what looks like a Garcia Conolon or Horrocks Ibbotson blank and a Heddon reel seat. The butt of the reel seat has Herter’s stamped in it. The line guides are still in good condition. The windings are still tight and in good condition and the cork handle is still clean, tight and completely intact. The ferrules are clean and tight. With no sign of restoration, that is in very good condition given its age. The rod shows some wear with a few scrapes on the blanks. But nothing major. The snake guides are all original and in very good condition. The windings are all tight and also in very good condition. The ferrules are all tight and pull apart with a noticeable pop. The cork handle is intact and still has the South Bend label on it with the following wording: South Bend A Name Famous In Fishing Rod No. 357 Length 9 FT. Orvis 'Manchester', 8', 3-piece, 1-tip Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod w/Tube/Sock
Orvis'Manchester' bamboo fly rod built 4/6/50 by Cal Skinner. 8' 3-piece, 1-tip(made with 1 tip) Blued 16/64 and 10/64 ferrules which fit perfectly and'pop' nicely when separated. Matching serial number#7674 on all three sections. I believe Orvis rates this rod with these ferrules for either a 6 wt or 7 wt. I like it best with a DT7F. This is a great streamer rod or for fishing larger nymphs with weight. The new high-tech, super light graphite trout rods just don't cast large streamers or weighted nymphs like a 6 or 7 weight bamboo, something about the'bamboo action' Original olive cotton poplin bag and an aluminum tube; the tube is likely not original. All sections equal length. 1.5" invisible wrap just below 2nd snake guide on tip section which appears to be a professional job, likely done by Orvis. ... moreBecause it is a clear(invisible) wrap you can see the bamboo underneath. There doesn't appear to be anything significant, likely just a hook dig. The rod is otherwise in excellent condition with very slight downward set in tip. Rare 1860s? John Conroy Porters General Rod 3 Tip Antique Fishing Pole Fly EXLNT
Here is a rare find very early American Fishing rod a John Conroy Porters General Rod. This rod came from a early northwest lumber tycoons estate. He passed away a long time ago. But recently house was sold and this was in basement with other articles from late 1800s. I found a few articles and pictures of this style of rod most were made with German silver. I could not find any with the brass and this handle will only fit one spare tip. This one has three tips. It could use a little oil on the rod and connectors. But did not want to oil it figured new owner would do what they want to do to the pole. This pole has three different measurements it can be fished a tad under 10ft also 9 ft 1inch and a tad under 8 ft. Selling this rare rod at no reserve so bid to win. Thanks for looking and bidding. It consists of 1 butt. 3 mids and 3 tips. 2 of the tips are stored in the hollow butt section. The rod can be made up into a 15' salmon rod or a 12' heavier rod. A.J. Campbell in his book"Classic and Antique Fly Fishing Tackle" said he had seen one of these rods and he described the butt section as" Heavy enough to bludgeon a beaver to death with it. I would concur; the butt section is very stout. Some of the notable features of the rod are the 2-part rolled and seamed female ferrules; the female ferrules are also straight and not welted. Vintage Heddon Pal #8453 Mark IV Fly Rod 7 1/2' 2 pc Fas-Tip Action HDH-HDG(5-6)
I'm selling one of my favorite fiberglass rods from the 1960's. Over the past year of so. I've collected a number of the coveted 7 1/2' 5wt Heddons, and they really are a joy to cast. Basically I decided I did not need 4 of them, and am trimming down the collection. I have owned a number of these Mark IV Fly Rod#8453 7 1/2' 2pc D-HDH-HDG(5-6wt) fiberglass flyrods over the years and this model was the lightest of the top of the Heddon Mark IV line. The rod is all original, the signature spring loaded aluminum reel seat shows normal use and boat rash and is in very good condition. The walnut and faux ivory inlay and cork grip are also in excellent condition. All guides, hook keeper,and ferrules are intact and in good condition, as are the windings from tip to bottom of rod. This is clearly a late 1950's/ early 1960's ... morevintage rod that has been fished lightly and enjoyed. There is an orginal Heddon brown with yellow piping cloth rod sock and the original Heddon aluminum tube and cap are period correct. The rod tube shows some wear, likely from use and shipping, but is fully intact and not physically damaged. Here is some nice detailed information on the Heddon flyrods from the 1960's. Some of which was borrowed from a similar Mark IV 8wt listed at $125 in late 2013. Vintage antique 9' Bamboo Fly Rod - 2 tip sections
For fly fishing as it used to be. You just don't find fly rods of this caliber made anymore. From a time before mass produced fishing gear. I can't fix the year of manufacture. But it is certainly 40 to 50 years old. Likely older yet. A unique and antique 4 piece(2 rod-end sections) bamboo fly rod. Sport King Tonkinized Model 28. After an extensive search I have not found another Model 28 for sale or in existence. This fly rod appears to have been used judging by the darkened cork handle. But no damage whatsoever to this instrument. All of the sections are equal length, with no repairs evident. No dents, scratches, loose or missing eyes, not even frayed or unraveled silk. The rod really is pristine, please see the pictures and zoom in. As do other high end fly rods. This comes safe-ed in it's original cotton pouch and aluminum ... moreholder. Each fly rod section safely fits into a sewn cotton fabric holder with individual storage pouches for each piece. Vintage Heddon Pal #8457 Fly Rod 2pc 8 1/2' Fas-Tip Action C-HCH GBF (7wt) Mint
I'm selling another one of my favorite fiberglass rods from the 1960's. Over the past year of so. I've collected a number of the coveted 8 1/2' 7wt Heddons, and they really are a joy to cast. Basically I decided I did not need 3 of them, and am trimming down the collection. I have owned this like new Mark IV Fly Rod#8457 8 1/2' 2pc 7wt fiberglass flyrod and it is in perfect condition. This rod was was the top of the Heddon Mark IV line. The rod is all original, the aluminum reel seat shows little use and the spring loaded reel seat is in excellent condition. The walnut and faux ivory inlay and cork grip are also in excellent condition. All guides, hook keeper,and ferrules are intact and in like new condition, as are the windings from tip to bottom of rod which are perfect. This is clearly a late 1950's or early 1960's ... morevintage rod as evidenced by the brown/orange fiberglass blank, and the spring loaded reel seat, which I personally think is very cool. I expect that this rod may have been fished and enjoyed. There is a correct Heddon green with red stitching rod sock and the very good condition Heddon aluminum tube and with Heddon both original end caps that are period correct. The rod tube shows minimal wear, likely from use and shipping, fully intact and with several small dents. Here is some nice detailed information on the Heddon flyrods from the 1960's. Some of which was borrowed from a similar Mark IV 8wt listed at $125 in late 2013. Payne Model 100 Bamboo Fly Rod 2 piece 1 tip in Excellent Restored Condition
Jim Payne Model 100 in excellent restored condition. According to my scale. This 7' 6" rod is 3 1/4 oz. The rod is 2-piece/1-tip and both pieces are the same length. The butt cap is stamped"PAYNE REG US PAT OFF" on one side and"SOLD BY ABERCROMBIE& FITCH CO NEW YORK" on the other side. The rod has the classic sliding band reel seat with walnut spacer. The rod comes with a bullet shaped plug for the female ferrule of the butt section. I believe the tube is original, but the sock is not. The tube has an E. F. Payne Rod Co, Inc. label. Given the markings on the butt cap, my best guess is that this rod was made after 1951. The rod was purchased by my father in the late 1970's and was in need of restoration, so it was probably made soon after 1951. The rod was expertly refinished 35 years ago using original ... morePayne silk, and it remains in excellent condition. The restorer added some extra wraps on the butt section to make it clear the rod had been refinished. I fished with this rod once, just to see what it felt like to fish with a Payne rod. The rod is delicate and handles a 4 wt line very nicely. This rod is a true classic and will make a great addition to any collection.

Up for auction is a Temple Fork Outfitters Lefty Kreh Pro Special fly rod that is 9 feet in length when complete and for 8 weight line with a fast action. This rod was part of a large lot of broken. Warranty return rods purchased directly from the St. Croix factory. The rod had a broken tip section which is not included in the auction. YOUR BID IS FOR THE BOTTOM 3 SECTIONS OF THE ROD, IN AS-IS CONDITION! These sections can be used for parts or spare sections for an existing rod. When rods are turned into St. Croix for warranty, they scrap off the label to denote that the warranty has been used up. If you look at the pics you can see where the labels have been ... moreremoved. The factory only removes the sticker from the rod, it does not effect the performance or durability of the rod. There is NO WARRANTY on this rod. Other than that the rod is in excellent used condition and ready to fish. Be sure to ask any questions you may have before you bid. MONTAGUE FLASH 9' FLY ROD WITH EXTRA TIP AND CLOTH CASE
This is a classic 3 piece 9 Foot'Montague Flash' Fly Fishing Rod with extra tip. This Rod was passed down to me from my father at the age of 12. I am not sure of the exact age but if I had to guess I would say it is anywhere from 65-70 years old as they were made from 1940 up til the early 50's and they're VERY hard to come by. The rod of course has signs of wear and tear over the course of its lifetime but I don't fly fish much any more and figured I would sell it to someone who could make use of it again. It comes with the original cloth case that it came in the tin with that my father bought it in. But I do not have the tin itself any more. As stated in the'used' description it is missing one guide off the extra tip, and two guides missing off of the second portion of the rod. Here is a very nice rare piece in need of rewrapping and refinishing. H.W. Hawes 10.5' 2wt.that's RIGHT! 10.5' 2wt! I have been unable to find this rod cataloged anywhere! All rod sections are equal length at 42.5" Each section has some set. The cork grip is in nice shape.the large winding check has some dings. The butt section has what seems to be random node spacing.the mid and both tips have 3x3 node spacing. No indicator of model anywhere on rod. This rod has been scraped and cleaned by previous owner. No cracks splits or delaminations visible anywhere. It is a beautiful piece that needs a good home. I can wrap and finish this for you the way you want for an extra fee. Sold as is.
