VINTAGE RARE SAKURA MERMAID WHALE BONE FLY/CAST FISHING ROD KIT This auction is for a vintage rare five piece Post WW II Japanese Sakurai Mermaid“Whale Bone” fly and casting rod combination kit with wooden storage box. It is in excellent original condition. It contains the original Sakura Whale Bone information card. The kit includes15 assorted hand tied flies. Leader material, a wooden leader holder and two unique bobbers protected by two sliding wooden coverings. There is a Sakurai decal on the handle and on the wooden box. The rod can be assembled into a three piece 8’ fly rod or a two piece 5.6’ casting rod. All sections measure 33” I would estimate the fly line weight to be a three-four. The 5 ¾” cork handle is in mint condition and is in its original plastic covering. The screw up lock reel seat is also in excellent shape. There ... moreare two snake eye guides on the fly rod mid section and three on the tip sections. The casting tip section has two guides. There is a stripper guide and hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and have the distinct“pop” sound when pulled apart. The tip sections have a very slight natural set which not affect the casting of the rod, The black colored whale bone cane and varnish finish are excellent. Vintage 1940s 50s Fly Casting Fishing Whale Bone Bamboo Rod Tips Kit Tackle Case
I found this fly rod tip kit in my dad's things-it belonged to his brother. And apparently was given to my dad. I really don't know a lot about it. But one of the rod tips has a tag attached that says"Made of Whale Bone" and the other rod tip has 6 sides-I believe it may be made of bamboo? There are also 6 wooden bobbers. Line, sinkers/weights, hooks, flies, and a wooden piece that looks sort of like a fence-this may have been to wind your line on? Rod tips are about 32 1/2" long; case is about 34 1/2" long. The 2 pieces of wood slide into grooves to cover the tackle sections. Case has some general wear on outside. And my uncle wrote his name, Mach. Shop, and Keep Off! on the top. The base is a Rogers R380. The upper section has a fitting to mount two drums. As well as a mount for an accessory rod. This double braced, 2 section Double Tom Drum Stand adjusts from 33" to 48 1/2" in height. The bottom section downtube has a diameter of 1 1/4" The top section downtube measures 16 3/4" long and has a 1" diameter. The mount for the tom drum clips measures 1" wide x 1 1/2" deep. The rubber block measures approximently 2 3/4" wide x 2 1/8" deep. The accessory mount hole has a 3/8" diameter. One of the legs has a crack, please see photos for details. You are bidding on a vintage Fenwick 5 Piece Fly Fishing Pack Rod made from a kit. The rod measures 8' 6" in length and is in very nice condition. It has the Fenwick Eagle on the second piece but no other markings. The metal reel seat and cork handle are in excellent condition. The rod blank is in the traditional chocolate brown Fenwick color. All of the line guides are well wrapped in traditional Fenwick colors and the ferrules are still tight. I don’t know the age of the rod but it’s a nice example of a Fenwick pack fly rod. VINTAGE SOUTH BEND SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD, BOX & REEL KIT
VINTAGE RARE SOUTH BEND 59-9 FLY FISHING ROD& REEL KIT This auction is for a vintage three piece South Bend 59-9’ split bamboo fly rod with storage clothe. South Bend 1122 fly reel and a seldom seen South Bend Reliable Fly Fishing Outfit display box. There is a South Bend decal and 59-9’ inscription on the bottom section of the rod. All of the sections measure 37” I would estimate the fly line weight at a six The South Bend display box is loose at the corners and can be easily glued. Otherwise it is pretty solid shape. I wanted to keep it in the original condition in which I obtained it. There are also two Oreno streamer flies included. The South Bend fly reel is an 1122. It is very good condition and fully functional. There is a button for smooth or click retrieve. The six inch Comficient cork handle and South Bend lite lock reel seat ... moreare in very good functional condition. There are four snake eye guides on the mid and tip sections and a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has the distinct pop sound when removed. There is a slight natural set in the tip section which will not affect the use or casting of the rod. I meticulously stripped the old varnish. Refinished with four coats of varnish and completed it with high quality wood rubbing compounds. The ferrules have been buffed and polished. The classic brownstone flamed colored bamboo cane and varnish finish are beautiful. The rod and reel are totally fishable. This is an Orvis travel package that includes a Orvis Vortex reel and a 4pc 9 wt Trident rod. Includes a soft/hard card for carrying the combo with you to your destination. I purchased this for a bonefish trip to Belize a few years a go and have used it a handful of times fishing for wipers in our local lakes. Due to my failing eyesight. I have decided to part with this combo as I don't get out like I used to. The Rod is 9' and a 4 pc with very minor cosmetic scratches. The Vortex reel is in great shape as well with very few marks. It is not perfect but in very nice condition.
