G LOOMIS IM6 ST1026 CASTING ROD (and ST1025 TIP) - EXCELLENT
This auction is for a G. Loomis IM6(96% Graphite) ST1026. 8'6" 2-piece Casting Rod. The auction also includes a spare ST1025 tip which is intended to permit the casting of slightly lighter lures than the stock ST1026 tip. The rod is rated for 3/8 to 1 1/2 oz. lures and 10- 20 lb. line. I am the original owner of the rod. Having bought it new in 1987. The rod has seen only light use, and I believe is fairly rated in excellent condition, particularly when its vintage is considered. There are a few very light, cosmetic scratches on the rod blank and there is some ridging on the foregrip and the handle. The spare tip also has some very light scratches, but it has never been used. The reel seat is branded"LOOMIS" but I believe it to be a blank-through Fuji seat. For auction is an Orvis Helios 9' 0" 8-Weight 4-Piece(908-4pc) Fly Rod in excellent condition. The rod has been on only two saltwater fishing trips with 7 days on the water. There are some light scratches on the carbon fiber rod tube from travel and the rod has very light soiling on the grip. This is a powerful 8-weight saltwater fly rod. The action is quite fast. But also forgiving, and it is very light weight. I will accept Paypal as payment and will send anywhere in the lower 48 US states for $16. Item is being re-listed because I included erroneous information when cutting and pasting the manufacturer's description. For clarification, this is a tip-flex rod, including original sock and tube. It is believed to be made in the Catskill Mountains of New York in the early 1920’s. Both tips are in perfect condition. And it is certainly a beautiful Dry Fly Rod. I believe this rod is a 5-6 weight. But no identification is shown. The fly rod is 10’ long assembled. The Rod Tip Holder is approx. 37 1/2 inches in length and may be made of wood. When I first looked at it I thought it was a stick of Bamboo but I am not sure. The top has a metal screw cap on it and the bottom has a small wooden cork with a tiny hole in it. The former owner of the holder was also the owner of a machine shop in Fresno. California and a fisherman. It appears to be handmade and the top screws off and the cork at the bottom come out easily. I was informed by another Ebayer that the Tip Holder is Bamboo not Wood. Notable marks on the rod are: Model#8477(this is on the butt section of rod as well as the tip) and Patent# 2537488. This rod was made for"Zeb Stewart" and it is inscribed as such(see photo) It also appears to say"4" or"B4" on it by the name B4. Rod fits together a bit soft, but separates with a"pop" Blank is rather immaculate. All original wraps. All Original signed Miller Quality on the brass bayonet tip. I have listed this item as Buy it Now or Best Offer. A magnet does not stick to the bayonet tip or the ring that goes around the glass ball. I am not sure if it is silver. Brass or copper. The bayonet tip measures from top to bottom 10" and the tip of the three sided bayonet has a very sharp tip on the end and has a green color to it. The steel arrow measures 15" from the tip of the arrow to the end, the end of the arrow is missing. The steel arrow is approximately 1/4" thick steel. The glass ball measures approximately 6" tall and is approximately 4 1/4" across. The ball has a non metal ring that goes with it. The lighting rod was taken off of an old 1800's barn years ago that was being demolished and was stored away in my collection. I am selling all ... morethe pieces together and not breaking them up. You get what you see in the pictures, the bayonet piece, the ball ring, the smoky glass ball, and the steel arrow. I have taken twelve pictures so you can see all the features of this unique lighting rod. There are no cracks in the glass ball. Where the ball would sit on the lighting rod rings it does have rough edges, but the glass on the ball itself is not cracked or chipped, it does need cleaned, I will leave that up to the professional. I have not attempted to clean any of the pieces, they are all original. My items are priced to sell and priced to please and I always accept reasonable offers. Vintage "Champion" Bamboo Fly Rod- Vietnam Era - Made in Japan - Extra Tip
You are bidding on a handsome vintage bamboo fly rod. My local expert believes the rod is from the early to late 60s. He's seen lots of rods like this come to the US in the duffle of servicemen coming home from Vietnam or Korea at about that time period. Air Force personnel in particular were stationed in Japan and would purchase these wonderful fly rods and bring them home. Three sections just under 36" My guess is that this rod is a bit under 108 inches, perhaps 105 or so. I am not willing to assemble the rod given the condition of the ferrules. Earlier rods would have ferrules that had the same flats as the rod. This example needs just a little restoration to get back into the hunt for your favorite fish. All the hardware is there. The bamboo rod is now in great shape. I would say this rod casts best as a 5/6 wt. Includes a brand new blue Alpine hard travel case and tan rod sock. The bamboo looks new. No water stains or splinters. Very clean and straight. I replaced the reel seat with a new uplocking chrome plated Aluminum reel seat with exotic rosewood insert. I used brand new stainless steel chrome plated snake guides with a line keeper. The old varnish has been removed and I re-wrapped the rod with brown and black thread.
