I don't know any more about it than what I learned through research. He was a rod builder and has done restoration in the past. I do not know if this rod has any restoration work. I left the patina so the photo of the rod seat are kind of hard to read. I assembled this rod just to measure it and would love to go fish it based on the beautiful action. Many rods are collectibles and are never fished, just displayed or tucked away because they are too expensive or impossible to replace if broken. If you have always wanted to fish one of these collectible rods without the hefty price tag this is it. This rod appears to have been refinished by a professional. All the wraps are tight. Varnish is beautiful, ferules pop when removed. No clicking in the ferules when making casting motion. I was told this was refinished in an Aristocrat wrap rather than the traditional Victory wraps. Who knows why but a beautiful specimen. Check out the pictures where the flash worked with me and you will see how this rod will ... morelight up in the sunlight. This is a used rod, however, I can't find anything wrong with it. I would not call it mint but it is excellent in my opinion. Please ask questions if you have them. This is a beautiful rod that has surely caught it's share.it has been well maintained. But not monkeyed with. This Imperial has the nice patina of age and normal use on all metal parts. I cannot tell who the maker is. Most of the diamond shaped label is missing. The only thin g I can see is the letter H and MAKERS OF FISHING TACK. The cloth bag is also missing most of the label. It has a diamond with UTK-HING ROD- BEST BY T EST-6691 9 1/2 FEET. I don't know much about these rods. It appears to be in very nice condition, some of the t hread s are coming loose. I don't think it is missing any eyes. Each secti on measures 39 1/4" long. I find most of my auction items at estate sales and yard sales. There may be some smoke or pet or musty odors. I have to be honest I do not know anything about these items. Unknown if they are in working order. There are two wood tip traps. I am only able to read the name on one of the reels that states Fishcrafters. Worchester ma. Unknown if bought or homemade. Unknown exact age but I have been told they are antique. There is one rod that is made of wood with no distinct markings. Again unknown if this is homemade or not. Wear and marks to wood and rusting to reel portions. Odor due to being stored in basement. Vintage and Rare Hardy 'Leonard' 2pc Wooden Pike Rod. Patent Wheeled Tip Eye
This rod was built Circa 1910. It is made out of two solid pieces of wood. The handle or butt section was probably shaped by hand from a single shaft to form the handle which has been tapered to form the butt section of the rod. You will find the name of the rod on the butt section. It says'Leonard' Has it been hand written in ink, stencilled or transfer printed? The rod has a rubber butt stop with a brass butt plate. That plate bears the Hardy Trade logo and address along with the Post Number: A55481. The butt section is fitted with the Hardy'W' Reel Seat mount which is nailed to the wood. Above this you will find a sliding brass ring with which you secure the reel in place. The two parts of the rod are joined with male and female brass ferrules. The rod is equipped with brass snake eyes apart from the tip eye and this is ... morewhat makes the rod a collectors item. The tip eye. As can be seen in picture 4 is hinged and is in the form of an enclosed roller wheel. The fitting carries the patent number: 313685. You will have to excuse me but my book with patent numbers is not to hand at present. I will address this shortly) The rod measures 8' in length. I do fish and have seen many bamboo rods so i know some warping is not uncommon but i was pretty surprised when i put this rod together because its very straight.The extra tip however has a pretty good bend at the tip. Both tip sections are missing the top guides. The first(largest) guide is bent and the thread is starting to un-winde. The reel seat has a slight bit of movement left to right when you twist it. Heddon 9 ft split bamboo fly rod made in Michigan pre 1952. Excellent condition and all guides are intact. Also has extra tip. Original cloth cover is included. Fly rod was my grandfathers and has caught a lot of fish. Many many good fishing years still available with this rod. On Feb-16-13 at 21:17:47 PST. Seller added the following information: Edit: Several folks have asked about any writing above the cork handle. There are none. Either Heddon didn't write anything there or my grandfather wore it off from use. If Heddon didn't write anything there. Then it must have been from earliest days when they may not have. The cloth tag is fairly old as well. The wt and length are clearly seen, but it's hard to read the rest. I'll try to get a decent photo of the tag& post it Sunday. The brass ring that holds the reel has a patent ... morenumber stamped on it so I will get that as well, but it too is hard to read. That is all. On Feb-17-13 at 13:15:02 PST. Seller added the following information: Edit: More pics added today and the patent number on the rod is 1524052. Though the cloth tag is hard to read. After three people inspected it we came to the conclusion it looks like a model 10.
