This lovely"Hardy's" The Houghton" rod dates from 1940 and is in"as found" condition. It has not been restored or repaired by us. The rod measures aproximately 10 foot 6 inches. including the handle) in overall length. The spear and reel fittings to the butt section are in alloy, the butt and top rings are agate lined. It has"lockfast" joints and all of the rings are present and well attached. The rod appears to be straight, however, the tips have a"set" or kink to the right. The close green whipping is in good order. The rod has been re-varnished at some point and there are some scuffs, ... moremarks and crazing mainly to the bottom and middle sections. The alloy butt is impressed with"Made By Hardy Bros Ltd. Alnwick, England" and"Pat. No. 20875/22" to the reel ring, Royal Apointment Crest, and the number"E5296" 1940) Just above the handle, written in Indian ink is"No. 246936, Palakona Regd. The Houghton" The rod has its' original bamboo tip tube. This has"Hardy Bros. Ltd. Makers, Alnwick, England" written in Indian ink. The previous owner has placed a landing net fitting to the bottom of the tube. The rod has its' makers cloth bag. This does have one or two small holes and broken ties. The rod has a lovely feel when held. Well balanced, sturdy, straight and it is need of little TLC to bring it back to its full glory, however, it is so evocative of times and anglers past. Antique Bamboo Fly- Fishing- Rod(I am not a FisherWoman or an Antique Dealer) This was an old fishing rod left to me by my father. It is from the early 1900's. It would make a beautiful décor or it could also be restored. 9' ft. 3 piece rod with an extra tip extension that is missing the metal rod tip guide. Doesn't look to be broken just looks like it slide off. One Rod Guide is off and will be shipped with rod. All other guides are there and need to be restored because of the age of the rod the winding thread is fragile. Metal portions on rod and extensions have some oxidation from age. Carry case needs to be restored it is wood with a fabric material flaking off and the metal ends have some rust. No markings at all on the rod so I'm not sure who's the maker. This auction is for an Orvis Impregnated Battenkill 6 1/2 ft. 2pc. 1 tip(made that way) fly rod. This rod casts a 4 or 5 wt. line very nicely and is in very good to excellent condition. The cigar shaped cork grip does show the beginning signs of ridging, but is structurally in very good condition. The reel seat is walnut with downlocking mechanism. The rod sock has a very small hole worn in the bottom where the rod has poked through, and can be very easily sewn closed. The ferrules fit very snug, and make a strong pop noise when pulled apart. This early Heddon fiberglas fly rod is in very good condition. Light loss to the decal forward of the cork grip. All wraps are solid, colors black and gold and all guides are in place, good shape. Super RARE MELTZER Lightning Rod & Copper 5 Wire Tip Farm Hardware 1 MORE CHANCE
Here we have for sale a SUPER RARE lightning rod. Brace and point. I've decided to sell one more of these RARE pieces. If you're a serious lightning rod collector, you better get in on one of these. First of all, lets point out one fact, this is 100% old original. I picked up 4 of these in Indiana back in November. I've already sold 2. I've known about these for several years and finally after much negotiation. I was able to purchase these. These came fairly close to where the company was originaly at, Rays Crossing, Indiana. If you doubt these type of tips are real, I have pictures of these up on a house and a barn. Not much is known about this small business. These are the first I've ever seen up close as in being able to handle one. The stand is unique and the tips are unique as well. Ok, here's some details. The ... morestand is 35" tall, made of three 3/4" wide strips of steel riveted together. The rod holders are strips of brass or copper sandwiched between the strips of steel. The legs are twisted by hand, as each leg is different. Some spiral left and some right. The rod is a 5/8" copper welded seam tube. Nothing special about that. Now the tip is most unusual! It is a slip on type that is pressed flat towards the top. There looks to be a piece that has 5- 6" copper wires inserted into it then soldered. This piece is then inserted into said flattened tip and soldered. Very unsual and time consuming to make a tip like this in it's day. As you can see the tip of one tine is blunt. Not sure if it was made that way or broke? I can't find any name or markings on any of the items. However these are unique pieces and can only be attributed to one company, Meltzer. As for damage, I believe the bottom of the tube is missing a portion, it is pinched and maybe the foot clamp part is whats missing. From what I've seen on the roof, looks to be a flat foot clamp of some sort. The patina is not the brightest but it has patina. Remember these were stored for 17 years that I
