Cosmetically, this reel is striking. It has nice black color to the side plates with nice plating and vivid graphics. There are some minor wear marks on the edges of the side covers and some very minor surface abrasions. Also, the crank handle of this reel has been replaced with the proper handle so there is a litle difference in wear on the handle vs. the drag star. Despite this, this truely is an awesome reel that will make a great addition to a vintage tackle collection or it is very suitable for fishing. This is a nice vintage black and chrome ABU Ambassadeur 5000C fishing reel with the original brown leather case included. There is a vial to hold oil as well however the oil has since been used so the on the vial is empty. There is light surface wear to the reel(some light scuffing. Minor paint rubbing and the grip shows light wear) The chrome is in excellent condition/ no pitting- no rust. The reel moves freely. I believe it is right handed. The number engraved on the reel is 241003. The case is in good condition aside from the slight vintage/musty scent. There is no cracking in the leather and the clasp works great. ABU Ambassadeur Brown 5500 Reel VERY Nice
The Ambassadeur 5500 and 6500 series were introduced in 1976-77. The 5500 was produced in three different colors. Red(the most common) brown and gold(the rarest) The 5 as the second digit in the reel number designates it as a high speed reel. The 5500C was both high speed and had ball bearings. Because the 5500 was sold at a lower price than the 5500C. It was speculated that the difference may have been due to the cost of ball bearings. All three colors are now widely collected. This particular reel is in excellent condition. Except for a small chip and a tiny rub on the faceplate rim just above the high speed decal. This reel is pristine. The chip can be seen in the first and fourth pictures. The rub does not show. The reel operates as new. The foot number is 781101, November 1978. ABU Ambassadeur 1750A Reel
The ABU 1750 and 1750A are interesting little reels. Introduced in 1964. They are the only reels in the Ambassadeur era to not have Ambassadeur engraved on the endplate. There seems to be no difference in the 1750 and 1750A except for internal parts. The"A" designation is usually given to reels with high capacity spools, but in this case the 1750 and 1750A both have high capacity spools. Their production number system is like the 6000 rather than other models. The foot number of this reel is 050801, meaning May 1968. This particular reel is in very good to excellent condition. Neither decal on the buttplate is perfect. See picture 3) There is a tiny bit of paint missing on the rims; the spacer is undamaged; the clicker is strong.The reel operates as new. Nice. Clean Abu Ambassadeur 5000 D baitcast reel in the hard to come by gold color. I believe the correct serial# is 741100. The first two numbers are hard to make out because the imprint is light. Everything seems to work properly. There are some scratches and light wear. The handle has a slight bend in it. Should be able to straighten it easy enough. Will leave that up to new owner. Early ABU Ambassadeur 6000 Reel Made Soon After Record Ambassadeur 6000
It's hard to trace the early history of the Ambassadeur 6000 because most of the production records have been lost. Like the 5000. It started as a Record Ambassadeur and in 1957-1958 the Record engraving on the buttplate was changed to ABU. Many Ambassadeur reels have become highly collectible because as the folks in Svangsta transitioned to a new model they continued to use parts from the previous model. Such is the case for the reel in this auction. This reel has the same counterbalanced handle. The same large capacity grey spool, the same 4 screw production, 3 external oil ports and no serial number as did the Record Ambassadeur. This reel operates very smoothly. It has a small amount of paint loss on the upper rims and very minor surface scratching. It's impossible to establish the age of the reel, but I would estimate it was ... moremade in the late 50's to early 60's. The pictures tell the story.
