Let me start with a quick history of how we discovered this amazing reel. We live in Madison. Indiana. Our home and barn are located on the banks of the Indian-Kentuck Creek and the Ohio River. In researching the reel we have dated our home to the early 1830's. From that point the court house records get little harder to follow. Our house by todays standards would be considered median size, however in the 1830's, from our research, it would have been considered large and possibly owned by a more affluent family. We inherited the homestead from my husbands family over 25 years ago along with the barn and all of its contents. About 18months ago, we decided to start going through several old wooden boxes, including some old ammunition boxes. In one of the boxes we found several antique wood working tools and this heavy, grungy looking ... morefishing reel. I grew up fishing and hunting with my dad so I loved the look and feel of this reel immediately! You could just tell there was something special about this reel. I wiped off a little bit of the dirt and then started doing my research. Let me start by saying this reel is not perfect. You will see by the pictures and the description. That there are some issues with this reel. However, I have spent about the last 18 months working with a top authority in Meek reels and Kentucky reels in order to give you as accurate of a description of this reel as I could, its history, and its possible value. This is a Meek No. 25 Blue Grass fishing reel. The side plate is marked B F Meek anb Sons Louisville KY No. 25 Blue Grass. The plate opposite the handle is maked Screw Off Carter Pat Jul 5, 04 Nov 28, 05. The foot is marked with the number 1. Mechanically the handle turns freely but the Cosmetically the reel is dirty, as it has been in an old tackle box for many years and needs a good cleaning but I will leave that to the new owner. Vintage Horton"Meek No. 2" Tournament Casting Reel comes with an aluminum spool and balsa wood arbor and is in excellent condition. The reel has a triple tournament handle. Turns freely and the click works fine. The interesting thing about this reel is that it has brass pads added between the foot pillars and the foot to raise the spool above the rod handle( I assume to make it fit the caster's hand better for thumbing the spool) I am not sure if this was added at the factory or by a fishing machinist. This one is very very sought-after first version despite having a bit less features than his successors cause it sounds GORGEOUSE! The condition of this item is used. It has a few mark rash, is working 100% and it delivers! MY experience with it: used in a sound studio. This one a VERY mojoesque, saucy, groovy. I love to fasten the release on it and it really fatten the sound in a motownish way, if you want it a bit more subtle there's way as well. As i few ratio set up. Scarce Aluminum HORTON MEEK No. 30 Level Winding Casting Reel - Bristol, Conn.
Horton Meek No. 30 casting reel. Featuring aluminum construction with german silver foot and posts, double handle, face plate mounted brake dial, back plate mounted clicker, and level winding mechanism. Aluminum Meek No. 30 reels are much tougher to find than the all german silver version, especially in this condition. Horton catalogs only offered the aluminum version of this reel in 1939 and 1940. Reel is marked Meek No. 30- The Horton Mfg. Co. Bristol Conn. on the face plate. And is marked with serial number 1953 on the bottom of the foot. Reel shows some mild wear from use, but these aluminum Meeks wore easily so this one is pretty nice. Mechanically the action is very smooth and the clicker is functioning and strong. Vortexion 50/70 w/ Line Out 4 Channel Preamp Mixer Mic Pre Neve BBC EMI Joe Meek
For sale here is my Vortexion 4 Channel Mixer 50/70 FET complete with Austrailian Monitor Drop Me to convert its 100 volt line output to line level so it can be used for modern recording. It has been used in a professional studio and is fully working. It features 4 channels of beautiful Vortexion microphone channels powered by a FET amplifier with 2 band EQ. Built in the late 1960s to early 1970s by Vortexion of Wimbeldon these units are now rare. This is the FET version of the famous valve Vortexion mixers which were popular with the BBC and many top recording studios. They were also used by Joe Meek in his studio and Mike Hedges also favours them using them on a couple of Manic Street Preachers records among others. These are top quality gear and the microphone preamps have a great sound. Only one available so bid now to avoid disappointment. ... moreFeatures: This is originally a PA mixer but the addition of the Australian Monitor Drop Me converts the the output to line level for recording. This give a 4 to 1 mixer with 4 mic inputs with 2 band master EQ. The Austrailian Monitor Drop Me also provides an attenuator so that you can derive the optimal recording level to tape or DAW. Inputs are balanced TRS and the main output is now XLR via the Drop Me. It has been modified by a previous owner to include a standard IEC(kettle) lead socket for the mains power and a line input option on Channel 4. The line input is however currently not working as the connection to it has been de-soldered at some point. But the cables are all there. I'm no electrical engineer but I guess if you wanted it, it would just be a case of re-soldering the cables to the socket. I have used it with dynamic. Condenser and ribbon microphones and have had great results with each. B.F. Meek& Sons No.3 Silver Kentucky Reel with Bag and Leather Case B.F. Meek& Sons- Louisville. KY- No.3 Marked German Silver Hand Made Casting Reel. This is a great example of an early Meek& Sons reel with a thin waisted counter balanced handle at 4 o'clock, two fine coin-edge bands on the headplate, and dished click and drag switches. Marked with serial number 6392, the reel has a nice click sound and the look and feel of a quality reel. Comes in felt bag and original case with the words, Charles D. Clement, Portland" stamped into the leather. The case is reminiscent of the leathering done by fine creel makers of the time in the Portland area and likely made by Lawrence, Nelson, or McMonies, although not stamped with a maker's name.

The spin action is very good. Handles are good, there is some wear to the inside base and underside base. All writing on reel is visible, this reel needs a good cleaning. It was taken out of my collection as I found it. It measures 3.5" across including handle. Spool diameter is 1.75" and it sits 2" tall. A fine addition to your collection. You are bidding on one Giddings& Meek number 12 hollow wood molding or moulding plane as pictured. It is marked"GIDDINGS& MEEK HARTFORD" on the front end. And"12" on the back end, plus a collector's number written on the bottom. The iron is marked"ARRY& WAY" with the first letter cut off. And I would assume that is BARRY& WAY, who were hardware dealers in New York City. Overall length is about 9-1/2" And the iron is a bit over 7/8" in width. I am pretty sure this is antique just by looking at the frame and mounting with nails. Though I am not positive it is pre 1930. Very nice condition, not much faded, under glass in wooden frame, about 14x12 inches in frame. If you win and only want the material not the frame and glass the shipping could be much less(if you wish to remount yourself) but it is in nice shape both the frame and glass. Weighs 2 pounds before packing, but I will insure it because of the glass. The poem is actually the first verse of a Charles Wesley hymn from the late 18th century I believe. Probably meant for hanging in a child's bedroom.

The corners were made to look rolled up like a scroll. The tin is marked on the bottom Carnation Girl, Copyrighted 1908 By The Meek Company. As you can see in the picture at the top it reads Kaufman's Clothier, Champaign, Ill. It does show a little wear consistent with age and use, some spots of surface rust and a wrinkle across the center, overall a very nice antique look that would display well. Description: This Joe Meek Floor Q is an optical compressor pedal. For a guitar or bass processor optical compressors are more musical and natural sounding. This compressor is capable of nearly transparent compressing for added sustain. Limiting, hard gain pumping compression or simple boosts. When testing it out with guitar and bass I discovered a load of effects I could see possibly uses for. I especially liked the heavy limiting type effect on clean guitar which is similar to many acoustic guitar sounds from 1960's recordings. The optical compressor's soft knee made this sound very sweet and organic. This pedal works great for punching up the front end of a tube amp for a little more drive too. Again in an organic way which come across as more musical and less harsh than many overdrive or distortions. For bass or rhythm guitar ... morework this evens everything out perfectly too. You may not notice when it is on but you will notice when it is turned off. The Floor Q is an excellent foundation pedal and can be viewed as both a great preamp and optical compressor. The operation of the Floor Q is simple. You have one input and one output for connecting to your guitar and amp.
