This is an exceptional Abu Ambassadeur 5000 4 Screw Baitcasting Reel. Original 3.6:1 gear ratio. This should be considered in"collectable condition" Several weeks after purchasing. I brought this reel to the Abu Garcia booth at the 2012 Muskie Expo in St. Paul, Minnesota. This reel was inspected. Cleaned and lubed professionally by Chuck Brod of The Sportsman Repair Shop. Mosinee, WI. While disassembling this reel, he stated that it probably had never been used as it had absolutely no signs of any mechanical wear whatsoever. He also stated the handle may not be the original, but should not effect the reel's value. That's how good this reel seems to be. Upon hearing this, an Abu Garcia staff person offered me a Revo Toro for this reel on the spot. However. I declined at the time. Weeks later, I was reconsidering this proposition. ... moreI did try to re-contact this same staff person by phone and email, but he did not respond. So, I have now decided now to offer it up for auction. Since then, it has been stored and not used. Please review the photos. We have up for auction. A very nice Vintage ABU AMBASSADEUR 5000 C Bait-casting Reel, manufactured by the ABU Company of Sweden in the early 1970's. Excellent condition, appears to have had very little usage. Good smooth retrieve, solid drag, cosmetically very good, some scratches on the reel handle, see the accompanying photos. The serial number is 017200, which I believe indicates a January 1972 manufacturing date. The reel weighs about 11 ounces. We will box and pack this item with multiple sheets of large bubble-wrap and surrounded by styrofoam peanuts. The shipping weight will be in the 1-2 pound range. We will be listing several other vintage Ambassadeur Reels and will combine purchases. When feasible, to help save on shipping costs. For you consideration is a Abu Ambassadeur 5000. The reel is bright.Clean and sharp. Although I cannot date the reel precisely it is undoubtedly an early example, with the all paperwork dated 1962 and serial number 298290 and the deep red color. mechanically no problems. The brown leather case has the"Ambassadeur of Sweden" logo and brass clasp. It is in overall very good condition. Included is the oil bottle(empty) Spanner and spares/service kit with the usual array of spare parts and brake blocks. It is embossed with 5000 on the lid. There is also a 23 page booklet. ONE OF AMBASSADEURS TOUGHEST REELS BUT IN VERY WELL USED CONDITION-first this is a 5000 deluxe model first introduced in 1962-features 4 screw side plate and lots of 24K gold plated parts-this reel was so special it cost $100.00 back in 1962-it has serial#7550 on the foot which may date it exactly-HOWEVER THE REEL HAS BEEN VERY WELL USED-there is wear on the rims on both sides-most of the gold plated parts have some gold worn off-the original handle is missing and replaced with a zorro power handle but the original gold plated handle nut is still there-the original wood box and extras were not with the reel when found-luckily everything works fine& the reel runs very smooth so it gave its owner some good use but he obviously didnt realize what he was fishing with-SUCH A SHAME BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS-its shown exactly as found and may clean ... moreup a bit better in the hard to reach areas-THIS REEL CAN FILL A SPOT IN YOUR AMBASSADEUR COLLECTION UNTIL A BETTER EXAMPLE CAN BE FOUND!
