1940s MICHIGAN PIKE~FOLK ART FISH SPEARING DECOY~WINTER ICE FISHING LURE
This wonderfully folky Michigan Pike measures 8" long and is painted in a bright shade of pea green with a gray belly. The eyes are painted gray around a blue pupil. The decoy is in beautiful. Original condition with just the right amount of light wear and normal paint loss to the metal fins. The double dorsal fin really adds a nice element of visual appeal and collectibility. There was a belief by the former owner that this may be an early work by Isaac Goulette. I am not able to confirm this based on my experience with this carvers work but it is certainly worth consideration. The decoy has a wonderful form and great configuration. Vintage Edward Schultz Folk Art 10" Minnesotan Fish Decoy
Here is a great Ed Schultz fish decoy. This one is very large at 10" long and is in good condition with much of Ed Schultz's unique paint style. Based off the pain and the style I would date it at sometime between the 40's and the 50's. Ed Schultz passed away at age 86 in 1966. Ed Schulz decoys are difficult to find but these large ones with this type of carving and graphics are even tougher to find. It has great head carving from eyes to solid and well designed fins. Painted eyes and gills with square cut lead cavity. Measures 6.25" Long. Russ's work is featured in each Vol. of Kimballs books. His style sets him apart from the rest of the early Newberry carvers and is one of the primary early Michigan Carvers. Russ ran a barber shop located northeast of Newberry on Big Ditch road and sold the decoys from his small shop along with supplying DUKES sport shop with decoys for use by local sportsman for many years. Nice vintage Randall wood fish decoy I believe. 7 5/8" long X 1.5" tall x 1 5/8" wide. If you look closely you can see the"$1.50" in the lead mold on the bottom of the fish between the fins. This neat. Vintage, painted tack eyed, 7 inch, working"Cadillac Style Fish Spearing Decoy" was made by an unknown Cadillac. Michigan area maker. The estimated circa is 1950's-60's. The maker of this neat fish attractor had cleverly painted flowing blood from this decoys gills to give it a crippled look to his prey. Decoys from the Cadillac area school are highly sought after, for there were many legendary spear fishermen who were also reveared decoy makers. Here is a GREAT old old OLD Fish Decoy. Has a Wonderful Carved Mouth and little cut out pieces of metal and then tack down for the eyes. The side fins are offset a bit. And reminds me of Chet Sawyer. The decoy measures approximately 7" long and 2 1/4" across. It has slight paint wear. But there are no cracks or chips on it, so it is nice condition for its age. Large & Long Fish Decoy Green Wood Pike Weights Metal Fins & Tail 31"
LARGE AND LONG WOODEN PIKE FISH DECOY NOTE: This decoy and the many others in my store are from a collector's estate in Lake Geneva. Wisconsin. I am not that familiar with fish decoy and do not know the age of this or any of the other pieces. Length is 31" Width is 6.5" fin to fin and height is about 2.5" not counting the back fin. Painted green with red mouth(small wood chip on the front of mouth) Red glass eyes and yellow on the bottom. Metal fins and tail painted green with black stripes. Bottom is weighted.
