Rare Unusual Early Northern Pike Wooden Cloth Spearing Fish Decoy Working 7 1/2"
This is a very unusual old northern pike decoy. The body is made of intricately carved wood but the middle part of the body is also covered with a painted cloth covering. The head and tail are exceptionally well carved. He has 4 metal fins and a metal hook on top. The bottom tip of the tail is broken off and some paint has flaked off of the cloth but it is in great condition otherwise. Vintage 1960's Minnesota Brinkley Wooden Spearing Fish Decoy Working 6 1/2"
This is a wonderful old honest working ice fishing/spearing decoy circa maybe 1960's. This is a Minnesota spearing decoy and I am told that it was likely made by a carver from the St. Paul area named Brinkley. This is not one of the newer reproductions that you see so much of on ebay. This great old 6 1/2" decoy is in excellent original condition with working repaint. This old decoy has metal side fins with a curved wooden tail fin and a curved wire loop on top for attaching the line. The base has an inset lead weight. I will be listing 10 other old working spearing decoys in the next week and one spearing decoy that is more contemporary. The last picture shows the group of spearing decoys which I will be listing. LaCrosse Frank Sokolik Fish Decoy!
LaCrosse Frank Sokolik Fish Decoy! This is a very early LaCrosse area decoy made by Frank Sokolik. I bought this years ago at a show from the top collector of LaCrosse decoys who is also from LaCrosse. Sokolik decoys are shown on page 153 in the book The Fish Decoy. Volume III. They were made in the early 1900s. This one has the LaCrosse type line tie, and just exudes coolness and character and is a great example of the way cool LaCrosse area decoys. It does have a some paint chipping and the tail section is a little beat up, but this decoy is probably 100 years old or older, and really has a cool look to it! I think the LaCrosse decoys are by far the coolest type of decoys, bar none, and this one is just elegent and really classy! Bid early and high to win this great old decoy! VINTAGE DON QUINCER RAINBOW TROUT~ FOLK ART FISH SPEARING DECOY~ICE FISHING LURE
This great looking Rainbow Trout was made by listed fish decoy carver Don Quincer. Quincer is from Minnesota and his decoys are included in the reference book THE FISH DECOY. VOLUME 3 on page 108 and are fairly difficult to come by. This carver is currently in his 80s and is not believed to be carving any longer. This example measures 9" long and has a carved mouth and glass eyes. It is signed on the belly with the maker's D over a Q mark and dated 2005. The condition is excellent, original and unfished.
