OVER 100 YEARS OLD ABBEY & IMBRIE SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT-FLY ROD W/ORIGINAL COVER
This is an Abbey& Imbrie"Many Use" Split Bamboo Bait-Fly rod combination. The information on the original cloth carrying case has that information plus it says"Butt- 3" Joints( Extra tip, No. 3CC, Cork grip, 4-6 1/2, 9 ft( The cloth case has a couple of rips in it and some water marks. The pole fits neatly into a grooved core for safe keeping. I believe that A&I label was used from 1906-23. The rod is combination rod made by Montague in the early 1907-teens because of the reel seat and end plug, a variation of a 1907 patent. It is well over 100 years old and only had one owner. H L Leonard Bamboo Fly Rod Model 36
Up for sale is a H L Leonard Model 36 7 1/2' 3/2. All the sections are full length. Straight and the furrels are tight. Rod comes with bag and original tube as seen in pictures. The rod has been refinished and is smooth with no cracks on the guide wraps. The rod is honey colored with red wraps and a honey wood colored reel seat. I fished both tips a handful of times lightly casting dries on Silver Creek in Idaho and surrounding waters, it fished great as a 3 weight for me. The reason I'm selling is just that, I don't use this enough and would prefer to invest in some photography gear. The one flaw is the rod has a 1/2' clear wrap on one of the two tips. I bought the rod this way and have fished it with no noticeable affects. This flaw can be seen in the photos located by the piece of black paper seen in the photos. There are some abrasions and scratches on this item(as shown in pictures) Someone has scratched their initials(NFM" NFFM" and what looks like"VIFF" into 3 interior sections on the reel(not visible when reel is operationally assembled) and 2 exterior areas(where it is mostly visible under the right light) Please refer ... moreto the pictures(I have documented these 5 areas) The black paint on the interior of the spool is worn and there are several scratches including one of the initialed areas(refer to photo) The top of the drag adjustment knob has 2 small nicks. The other 2 interior areas where the initials occur are approximately 1 inch from the exposed bearings on both sides of the body of the reel. The interior spool side is where it appears to have the"VIFF" There is also the outline of what appears to be some sticker that has fallen off(located next to the exposed bearings in photo) The final areas are on the exterior front and back face of the reel and I did not notice them until I had the reel under the perfect light(I owned this reel for years without seeing this) Also. There is an abrasion on the frame at the bottom of the reel(next to the bottom post) If you are considering buying this reel then you are most likely a serious angler and or collector so please study ALL pictures very closely with the zoom function. Up for action is an Ultra Rare Hardy All Brass Perfect measuring 2 5/8" in diameter. This size is actually referred to as the"Houghton" Dry Fly reel made for the elite Houghton Fishing Club who's members included Royals and Aristocrats sporting trout on the famed Thames River. England during the early 1890's. The reel is in near excellent but uncleaned condition as pictured, with no cracks anywhere. The reel's action is silky smooth with a strong click and adjustable drag with a creamy butter handle. Please take note that the center screw has broken off(as pictured) but can be easily repaired. According to Lee Wulff there were only 100 of these made. 3 1/2" diameter. 1 1/8" wide spool Designed by Stan Bogdan for Wulff. Black anodized frame and spool. Perforated tail plate and spool flanges. Rim control spool that Wulff claims was the first ever built. Useable as either a right or left hand wind. Excellent- condition with tiny rim nicks and one rub at the base of the tail plate rim. I believe that some of these were actually made by Stan Bogdan. Though it is unclear which and how many.
