Vintage antique Meisselbach (No Name) Casting Reel
A F Meisselbach wide body casting reel that has no name on the head plate. These reels were poor mans Meeks. They were a great quality reel for the price. Every time I come across one of these they still usually work great. They are often beaters because they fished good and were bomb proof. These are a little rare with no name on the head plate. There were a lot of Takaparts or Triparts. This one spins freely and the clicker works. It has patents Nov 04. Dec 04, June 05, Mar 07, Aug 09, thats 1904-09) It is made in Newark, NJ and holds 80-100 yards of line. It is missing the nut on the handle, but the handle screws onto the reel and it will function as designed without the nut. This auction is for a vintage Meisselbach Takapart fishing reel in used condition. It is marked 8 BRO and 80- 100 yards. The reel appears to be one of their earlier models as it also has a patent date stamped on the side of Nov 15-04 and June 20 05. The over-all condition is average to good with some minor chrome or nickel loss throughout the reel and minor blue paint on the handle. The drag does not appear to be working. This reel needs a good cleaning or could certainly be a great piece to be used for parts as it appears to be complete with all original parts. Neat old item to add to your vintage fishing. You are bidding on one"EXPERT" fly reel. The spool measures 3" diameter. The body measures 3 1/2" diameter. The depth is approximately 2" including the handle. The foot is approx 2-1/4" long. In the top of the body is inscribed in"EXPERT" On the face of the spool is inscribed"PAT'D. FEB 23-86, NOV 23-86, FEB 5-89" The body and spool are nickel plated brass. The plating is in excellent condition. The handle is wood and is in excellent condition. There is a copy of this reel in worse condition than this one on display at an angling museum. Researching the web I found the following information: The Expert reel was the second reel produced by A. F. Meisselbach& Bro. It was a vertically aligned reel that the Meisselbach's envisioned as a fly reel. Trolling reel, or casting reel. The ... morefirst version of the Expert(1888-1895) had a notation that these reels had a bullet shaped knob and this version of the Expert is scarce in both sizes. Later editions had"expert" in an italic font rather than block font. A. F. Meisselbach. The son of German immigrants, designed his first fishing reel in 1885. At the tender age of 20 he received a patent on this reel and then convinced A.G. Spalding& Bros. to sell the reel for him. This reel was a simple single action reel, that we call the Amateur. Demand was brisk, and"Gus" soon convinced his brother, William, to go into the business with him and their Newark, NJ garage was soon humming with machine work. In 1888 they expanded their line rapidly and moved into a larger machine shop. That year they added the Expert Reel, the Universal Rod Holder and their famous line of Spring Bow nets. A.F. Meisselbach& Bro. Newark. NJ August Frederich Meisselbach's first reels were simple. Useful reels. He received the patent for his first reel on February 23, 1886. This is the Okeh#620. It is a free spool version. It was manufactured from 1922 to 1927. This was an expensive reel. Selling for $15 in the 1920s. This reel is sold as is THIS REEL TURNS FREELY AND THE CLICKER WORKS WELL. THE LEVEL WIND FLIPS BACK AND FORTH WELL AND IT MOVES FROM SIDE TO SIDE WELL WITH SOMETIMES HANGING UP ONE THE RIGHT SIDE JUST A BIT. I THINK IT NEEDS A MINOR ADJUSTMENT. Antique Meisselbach Amateur fly fishing reel with thumb brake
A well-used vertical Meisselbach Amateur#7 with the thumb drag. Made from the late 1880s up until about 1919. As you can see, this reel has seen quite a bit of use, with some finish loss. I think the knob might be original, but it's attached with a rivet instead of a screw. This is a somewhat tough reel to find for Meisselbach collectors. Winner pays within 3 days with PayPal. Up for auction a nice and somewhat Scarce 1904-1919 A.F. MEISSELBACH& BRO. NEVER LEAK" ONE DROP OILER. These early oilers from the Newark. N.J. shop of A.F. Meisselbach& Bro. don't show up for sale every day. These pocket oilers were produced from 1904 until about 1919 and were designed to apply one drop at a time to reels. Stamped on the oiler is"NEVER LEAK One Drop Oil Can- Trade Mark- Pat'd Nov 8-04" I've added a photo of the description and an old advertisement for the Never Leak oiler. Taken from page 88 of Phil White's great book"Meisselbach and Meisselbach-Catucci Fishing Reels" I've also added a photo of the original 1904 Patent drawing, also from Phil's book. The oiler is in Fine+ condition for these, showing only moderate wear. Stamping is easily read, although I had a hard ... moretime producing a decent photo with my ghetto camera. I found this at an estate sale and just passing it along. This is a vintage Meisselbach" Tripart 580" casting reel in pretty good shape given it's age. Measures 2 3/16' wide with a diameter of 2" All mechanical functions work well with no issues. The reel comes apart[ both side plates unscrew] and I opened the sides up to look inside. It's clean and all there but needs a good lubrication. The last patent date registered says Aug 3 1909. If not happy then send it back for a full refund. Thanks for looking and good luck.

Vintage 1897 Meisselbach GOOD LUCK Cod Reel; Wood and Brass
This wooden fishing reel was among some old wooden tools found in Milan. Ohio. Googling revealed that this is called a Meisselbach Cod Fishing Reel; marking stamped in the wood is a fish across a horseshoe. Which is the trademark of Good Luck fishing reels; the words Ball Bearing are stamped beneath the trademark. The brass has a patent date of Mar 9. 97(1897) there is a T incised on the brass fitting where the rod would go. Reel measures about 7" in diameter. Reel turns smoothly and the 2 knobs also turn nicely. There is almost no wear on the wood edges. And no major chips or cracks on the wood surfaces. I don't know if there is anything missing, but what there is on the reel seems to be complete. The reel handle appears to be woodwith a very small crack. Close to the base. The handle may be missing a nut where it screws on? On the other side there is a few pat dates that are a liitle hard to read because of the size. Nov 15 04, Dec 20 04, June 20 05, Mar 5 07 and Aug 3 09. Up for your consideration is this Nice Antique. Original Early J. C. HIGGINS. No. 319 Featherlight Fly Fishing Reel similar to Meisselbach brand. It appears to be brass or bronze but not sure. Reel is straight and works great. The clicker lock slide button works fine and clicks sharp and nice. The reel has your normal 65 plus years of gentle wear. Wear marks include wearing of the brass/bronze, scratches, pearl looking reel knob shows a little wear. The pearl looking knob how ever is not cracked and turns freely. This is a light saltwater reel. The stamp"Triton" is very light but readable. Black hard rubber plates& German Silver with a single screw on the rim. Double knobs. There are some scratches on the plates. Mostly on the rear one. I'm not real familiar with these reels, there is a small hole on the front plate, even with the rim screw. Not sure if it's supposed to be there or not. The rear plate is stamped(lightly) with patent dates. Reads"Pats; May 21. 1912; Feb 5, 1912; April 13, 1915; Newark, NJ. The foot is stamped"1731 T; A.F. Vintage Meisselbach-Catucci"Symplopart" 250 Nice Classic Take-Apart From 1922. Auction is for a vintage Meisselbach-Catucci"Symplopart" 250 baitcasting reel. This one is a very high quality construction. And has a real neat easy take-apart function. You can remove the spool and handle sideplate without any tools, just push on the little knob and twist. I'm sure the name"Symplopart" means something along the lines of"Simple to Take Apart" Overall this one is in very good shape, but has some wear in the finish on the sideplates and a slight amount in crossbars. Otherwise, not too bad for such an old one and make sure to check out the photos for more details. Operationally it spins well and the spool adjustments and take-apart knob work perfect. Meisselbach"rodster" box. The reliable and very popular Rainbow 631 3.25 inch diameter reel was renamed the Rodster in 1940/1941 just prior to A.F. Meisselbach& Co. Closing. Under the Rodster name this box was likely sold in small quantities and is seldom seen in any condition.
