Meisselbach "Good Luck" Wood Reel 5 3/4 inch Diameter BALL BEARINGS, UNMARKED
These wooden reels were usually called"Cod Reels" As they were commonly used for bottom fishing in salt water for cod fish and other similar species. Good Luck" Wooden Reels The Good Luck wooden reel was manufactured from the 1890s until 1919. These reels do not have the Meisselbach name on them- they are almost all originally branded with a horseshoe and fish trademark. The earliest examples are stamped with the 1889 patent that pertains to the Expert reel. The final design of the Good Luck reel was patented in March 9, 1897. This version features a full"S" brass reinforcement on the wooden spool, and has straight, cone, or ball bearing shafts. The wooden spool came in 5, 6, or 7 inch diameters. According to the site I looked this up on on WOOD REELS. This is the final version of the Good Luck Reel. Note the black ... morepainted bulb shaped knobs. This reel measures just about 5 3/4" It has the words"BALL BEARINGS" on it. I took it apart and examined the bearings. They are fine. I added a little 3 in one oil to them. but did not"take them apart or"Pack Them" this reel is very clean and has an even tone to the color/finish. When you spin it you can hear the bearings roll. The reel is in very good condition with some fishing/ handlingscuffs to the rim. It appears to be 100% mechanically. It needs to be cleaned and oiled for fishing. What is outstanding that it has the box and papers. Thisbox is a 2 piece box that is black embossed paperboard. While having some minor scuffs and papers that are wrinkled and a having a few tears they are quite hard to find. It is my belief that the embossed paper box is the earliest box but I am not absolute on that. This a great old collector reel and will display beautifully.It is also quite usable for vintage tackle fishing if that is what you choose to do. Meisselbach Expert #17 Fly Reel, Headplate Click, circa 1895
Yawman& Erbe/H-I Auto Fly Reel Here is an early Meisselbach Expert No. 17 fly reel(3 inch plates) with the head plate click. Which was used from 1888-99. The grooved straight taper knob was used from 1895-1900, according to Phil White's excellent book, Meisselbach and Meisselbach-Catucci Fishing Reels: A Collector's Guide, so we know this reel dates to 1895. The head plate click works well in both direction. Also marked with three nineteenth century patent dates on the head plate. This brass reel shows scratches and pitting. A.F. Meisselbach Featherlight Fly Fishing Reel - Pat. Jan 14, 1896 - Great Reel
This auction is for a really nice little vintage A.F. Meisselbach Featherlight fly fishing reel. The patent date on the side says Jan.14:96. Dating it 1896. Cosmetically the reel has a lot of patina and shows wear but mechanically it is all in total working condition, turns smoothly and the clicker brake works very well. The spool can be removed by taking out the screw in the center. It is pretty straight for its age and all original. You can read all of the original writing. It says Featherlight on the handle side and No. 270 on the tip of the foot. You can see the condition of the item in the photos. The reel is a part of my personal fishing tackle collection. Up for sale is a vintage cast iron Fishing Rod Holder. I have only found pieces of these Rod Holders. This is the first one I've ever found completely intact. First the patent info. The clamp is marked only: PAT. AUG. 28. 88. I did some research and found the patent number: No. 388433. It was issued to August F. and William Meisselbach of Newark N.J. on that date. The screws and adjustments work smoothly. It has a dark pitina with some rust. An Awesome find. Great addition to your vintage fishing collection. Tripart T P 80 St. Louis USA and stamped in another area is"Patents Nov. 15'04, Dec. 27'04 June 20, 05 March 5, 07 Aug. 3'09" Patent dates suggest it could have been our grandfather's reel. Appears to be in working condition. Two inches in diameter by 3 inches across. Good condition but a little tarnished and dirty. Sold as is. Disposing of estate. No international shipping.

Here is an early Meisselbach Expert fly reel(3 inch plates) with an exposed clicker gear. Which was used in the 1890's I believe. The reel spins fine, nut the clicker does stay in the on position. The nickle over the brass has pitting, but the majority of it is still there. This reel might fill in a gap in a collection, or just make an interesting piece to have! No. 627 A.F. Meisselbach Mfg. Co. Elyria. Ohio, USA. I don't have a whole lot else to say about this. It's clearly worn. Which is indicated in the pictures. The line inside the reel seems fine, though it's also seen some use. The handle works without problem. It's been in a box for awhile, but not really kept conditioned from environmental intrusion.

Vintage Meisselbach Takapart#480 reel This reel was made in The USA about 90 years ago and is in very good working condition. The gears. Cast control, click are very good. It seems to be missing a cap on the handle, however the handle is secured firmly. Its a well made solid reel and is a grade 8/8+. It weighs 8oz. and was designed primarely for freshwater fishing, and is the 100 yd. size. If you are not happy with an item returns are fine but the buyer pays shipping. The reels I sell are 98% used. And in between 20& 100 years old. Most are far from perfect, so I some times use the Orca grading system, the first no. is how it looks and the second how it works. Antique Meisselbach first version automatic fly reel 1911-1918 #713137
Fishing Up for consideration is an Antique Meisslebach first version automatic fly reel made in Newark NJ between 1911 and 1918. The reel is marked Pat. June 30. 1914. Mechanically the reel functions very well for it's age but is a little stiff and could probably use some lube. Cosmetically the reel is in excellent condition with a nice German silver finish with the proper level of petina. The only cosmetic concerns include some minor scratches on the crank and on the back side of the reel. Despite the cosmetic concerns, this is a great, scarce reel that will make a great addition to a vintage tackle collection. Meisselbach automatic reels were not as innovative at many of their other reels. The first model(1911) did have some patentable features. And was typical of previous Meisselbach reels: It was stout and dependable. Up for auction a somewhat uncommon CIRCA 1907 MEISSELBACH"TAKAPART" NON LEVEL-WIND UNUMBERED*TRANSITIONAL* CASTING REEL. These"transitional" models were produced by A.F. Meisselbach& Bro. of Newark. N.J. in 1907 and perhaps the early part of 1908. Unlike the numbered version of the Takapart(No.480) which would come later, these have the blank faceplate, while the tailplate carries the 1904 to 1907 Patent dates near the top and"TAKAPART Trade Mark" stamped near the bottom. Under the foot reads"A.F. MEISSELBACH& BRO. NEWARK, N.J. U.S.A. 100 YDS. This version is equipped with the"straight" spool shaft that is seen on the earliest models.
