Pflueger Gem 2094 Fly Reel Circa 1938 Early Version
A very nice reel in excellent mechanical and very good cosmetic condition. This one dates to about 1937 or 1938 because of small gear on spool versus large gear on newer versions and black painted brass reel foot riveted and not screwed to frame. By 1942 reel foot was chrome plated and screwed to frame and gear was much larger on spool. The oldest versions 1934 to 1936 had a telegraph style latch to hold spool on spindle. Beautiful butterscotch handle on this rare version of a highly collectable reel. Only cosmetic problem is missing paint on inside of spool; the line dressing on the old silk lines on these reels tended to eat away the finish on the inside of the spools as the lines slowly rotted away.

You are bidding on a vintage Pflueger Progress Model 1783 Fly Reel from 1935. A Pflueger Progress logo is stamped on the top of the foot and the numbers"1783" and"150" are ha ndwritten in ink on the bottom of the foot. This reel has not been clean ed. Polished, or oiled. There is some light dirt and corrosion visible as expected from normal use and age which contributes to a nice patina. T he photos highlight reel with a copper brown colored patina but it is actually more of a gray tint which does show thru more clearly in the foot picture. The reel appears to be in working condition with good balance and the single stage clicker appears operable. Pair up with a rod for fishing or will make a nice display in your collection. Vintage Pflueger Supreme 1576 baitcast reel. Box is dated 2/67(Feb. 1967) This was referred to as the Anniversary Supreme reel. The reel is built like a Swiss watch. No pun intended. Shakespeare bought out Pflueger in the 70's and that was Shakespeare's motto for years. The reel features phosphor bronze gears and bearings. Machined aluminum spool, cast alloy aluminum side plates and is powder coated to protect from corrosive saltwater, and chrome over brass frame. The free spool is a button located in the center of the double nob fighting crank and is flanked by the star drag which is effective enough to tame Tarpon or Muskeegalong. Has a line out alarm, on/off anti-reverse, extra cap and spare pawl. Comes with tube of Pflueger lube, cork arbor, zipper pouch, and brochure. The reel operates with a loud clicker and the spool turns very smoothly. A good cleaning will only improve the excellent operation. Very hard to get good pictures of this reel. It shines! Minimal tarnish on this reel. What there is resides under the spool on the mounting bracket. Two plate screw heads are rusted. One knob pin for the handle is tarnished and shows green. Otherwise. Everything is in very good to excellent condition on this reel. All the imprints on the side plates is sharp and unmarred. The knobs are in fine condition. Has all the usual markings imprinted into the brass with chrome over top. Of course. The"B" on the back of the mount. This reel needs a good cleaning. As much as it shines. ... moreIt can be better. Hey. I've been fishing. I've even caught a fish or two, although never a keeper. But I never used anything fancy like the box of reels I found at an estate auction. Actually I never even put the bait on myself, too icky. One time I even did ice fishing.kind of. My boyfriend at the time told me to dress for fishing in February. So, I wore some good boots with a sexy heel, and my good leather coat. I was trying to look cute, what did I know about fishing. Well, we got to the lake and it was about 33 degrees outside. Lot of people were on the lake fishing. None of them were dressed like me. There was about 6" of slush on the ice but we were assured there was plenty of ice and to not worry. About 5 minutes into the adventure, slipping and sliding to get to our spot, I looked at the guy, freezing and wet all over and asked if we could ... moreplease go home. He laughed, questioned my story about being a fisher-person even though we had gone together during the summer and we left. There, did ice fishing! Check it off of my bucket list. So. This is a very cool looking fishing reel. I really like the green handles, looks like kitchen things to me. There is string on it. This is a Vintage Pflueger Akron Reel#1983. Condition: I really don't know how to determine condition. The item looks like it has been cleaned. Doesn't have the sticky feel of the others. I don't know if the green handles are distressed on purpose or if they're just distressed. It turns just fine and the string comes out easily enough. No chips or cracks in the unit. I don't clean these vintage items anymore because when I was brand new at this I ruined a very expensive piece trying to spiff it up. So.the dirt and dust is FREE. No charge at all. Condition is so often in the eyes of the beholder. I can believe that something is in terrible condition and you can think it's average.
