Early #637 Shakespeare Pikie Kazoo photo scale fishing lure
For sale is an early#637GW. Rainbow with scale finish, Shakespeare Pikie Kazoo fishing lure. This is an earlier Pikie Kazoo in such that the glass eyes are located on the face of the lure. Most are found with glass eyes, and then pressed-eyes, located on the sides of the lure. The bait shows some wear as seen in the photos. It has nice gill marks. Wood body is approx. 4 3/4 inches long. Lure dates to the mid 1920's. I have a reference to it in a 1925 Shakespeare catalog. Please look at the pics posted for help with condition. This appears to be an early William Shakespeare Co. underwater minnow. The lure has flat plate hardware. Glass eyes, hand painted gill marks and appears to be in a perch paint pattern. The lure is in used condition as seen in the photos. Both eyes are uncracked and the lure has one belly weight. The lure body measures approximately 3 inches in length. Creek Chub lure maker’s box for Shakespeare Swimming Mouse,4 lures,jigs,blanks.
Rare Historical piece of history. This is the actual box used at the Creek Chub factory to make the wood Shakespeare 6578 Swimming Mouse. Creek Chub had been making the Shakepeare lures(and others) by agreement. The kit includes lures in various stages of construction. Hardware, metal machine jig(for holding the lure while in production) and finished lures in the original box from the factory workbench. The box was purchased from Derek Heinzerling who rescued it from the Creek Chub factory when it was closed down. Extremely rare package. These were make at the Ashley. Indiana plant and as seen in the one picture you can see the date of 3/19/1953 written on one of the blanks. and on another lure is stamped Creek Chub Bait Co. Ashley, Indiana. There are three finished swimming mouse lures and one that I assume was an example lure that has 6578 ... moreembossed into the wood on the top of the lure.
