From what I have been told. This is another South Bend, Pike Oreno, Circa 1931, Wood Antique 2 Treble Hook Fishing Lure. This one has been repainted at some time during its life. From a collection which we need to sell. Have many of these old lures to sell, but decided to sell them one at a time since then whoever wants them can pick. Besides, several are the same type. This item is a very vintage unmarked South Bend Bass Oreno fishing lure from the 1950's from what I can tell. It is in the redhead pattern. Wood, with the painted tack eyes and old style hardware with the heavy duty triple treble hooks. Length is approx 3 3/4 inches. Condition is good with uniform age cracking, minor chips, no rust, no major dents, no hook drag. This is a very nice lure considering it's age. It is unknown on how the transition from the Worden buck Tail Bait Company. Worden is credited for his famous use of the buck tail. Worden who was infamous and instrumental in the fishing tackle industry for adding deer hair to the trailing treble of artificial fishing lures. There lies a lot of uncertainty as to South Bends role in the lure industry and how it was formed early on. There have been documents recently found showing relations between other old antique lure makers. Showing the outsourceing or jobbing of painting of lures. Using certain paint patterns and even using similar if not the same hardware early in the South Bend Lure company life. There is some great reading on this in a few articles of recent NFLCC magazines; another great testament to the role a club can play in any hobby.
