Antique Primitive PreMax Steel Fishing Rod and Reel These were only produced briefly in the late 1920s-1930s by a steel company in Niagara Falls that tried to diversify from its stamped steel sign product lines. Both the rod and the reel are unusual. Due to the hand friction brake, stiff steel on steel. If the trigger is not squeezed the reel doesnt turn. The swing arm for the line feed can be put in several locations. Once the reel is removed the top portion of the rod can be loosened and turned as the fisherman wishes, the feed moves freely to align, and then the reel is reinstalled. Each rod and reel is made of steel. With hand turned wood portions as you see, with all steel line. This has wood hand grips on the Rod and wood knob on the Reel. Vintage Bristol Extendable Steel Fishing Rod & Reel, Horton Mfg Co Bristol Conn
Up for auction is a vintage Bristol extendable metal fishing pole made by Horton Manufacturing Company in Bristol. Conn. I found this rod and reel combo at an estate sale. The owner was an avid fisherman and had this combo and other memorabilia hanging in this den. I do not know a lot about this rod, but understand that the earliest production occurred around the turn of the century and they became popular for many years. This rod extends to almost 8 feet. There are three rod sections and they look like the upper two sliding sections are made out of copper. The handle supposedly can be attached in either of two directions allowing the rod to be used as either a fly pole or casing pole depending how the lower section is attached. The sections slide without difficulty and the eyelids are firm. The rod sections are hexagon in shape. I would ... moresay the rod is in good condition in consideration of its age. The handle is made out of rubber I believe. The reel was attached to the rod. It is a Skipper Level Winding Baitcast reel. The reel operates fine but shows wear-refer to pictures. Up for bid is the oldest heavy duty steel ice fishing rod that I have ever seen; and I own many. Overall length is 3 feet It has ribbed fore grip and butt grip. Very dark wood which could be walnut. Vintage Square Steel Fishing Rod & Reel Pfleuiger w Patent Papers 1930s
Vintage rod and reel with copy of patent papers for the rod and reel locking mechanism. The rod is a True Temper with some unique features. It has the patented“Speedlock” fishing-rod handle. This method of attaching the reel to the rod was patented in 1925 with patent number 1534674. I have a copy of the original patent papers and drawings and will include them. The rod itself has a patent number 1755159; issued in 1930. This patent was for a metallic casting fishing rod possessing qualities of strength and flexibility. Rod is made of square steel tapered from handle to tip. Line guides are red glass in a brass support and attached to the rod with wrapped fine copper wire. The tip eye is missing and repairs attempted(see photo) Overall length of the rod is 55” I also have patent papers and drawings for the rod. OLD TRUE TEMPER STEEL FISHING ROD W/COVER-APPEARS NEVER BEEN USED- GENEVA OHIO
For bid is an OLD TRUE TEMPER MERCURY steel fishing rod. Made in Geneva. Ohio. Appears to be new/old stock. Came out of an old store that closed, been stored for years. It has what appears to be a maker's flaw which is the True Temper name plate in the handle area where a reel would mount. It has what appears to be a stress crack when the rod was made. It in no way affects the sturdiness of the rod or handle. The old rod is starting to show some discoloring spots from age/storage. Total length is 55 inches. The old cloth cover appears ok only having some of the original sticker coming off in places due to age, no holes. I am not sure but think this rod was being made in the 1930's or 40's. It has the old sticker on the rod: TRUE TEMPER MERCURY. There may be a sur-charge on the postage on this item due to length. I have allowed ... moreenough weight to cover a sur-charge. For bid is an OLD GEP ACTIONIZED steel fishing rod with the original cover. NEW/OLD STOCK. Notice the GEP name is also on the cork handle. The rod can be removed from handle when storing in the old cloth cover. The cloth cover is still in good condition for its age. It does have a couple of small holes from being stored/age. And a minor amount of soiling. The old rod has the GEP sticker still in great condition. The length is approx. 54 inches overall. Made by Gephart Mfg. Co. in Chicago, ILL. This is a very rare early 1900's Bristol Steel Fishing Rods Advertising Printing Block used for magazines and news papers back in the day. The ad shows a Bass leaping out of the water going after a live Frog while hooked in the front connected to a Bristol fishing rod. I have never tried to clean this piece so it has the dark patina from it's age and it's use with printing ink from back in the day. A lot of it's detail has dried ink in it from use many years ago. The wood press block that it was tacked to is long gone from over a 100 years ago when it was used. When is the last time that you saw one of these? That's right. One USED oxidized George Benson patent steel rod fishing pole. A wall hanger. I assume most of these out of frustration were thrown in the river after fisherman's index finger started to bleed after few casts. Very uncomfortable to cast with. 51 inches overall length, 41 inch steel rod with one loop and one"something or other" in the middle of rod. Old True Temper Steel Rod- The American Fork and Hoe Co. Cleveland Ohio A Great Christmas Gift! I have had this for years and never used it. I have not tried to clean it or repair it. It is in the same condition as I found it- in the rafters of my first house. The others I saw researching this piece all seem alittle different in their construction? I haven't seen one exactly like this one. I cannot find a model# other than seen in pic#11 and not sure what is says? The patent info side needs cleaned to read as it is gunked up and some rust over the lettering. The cork looks good to very good to me. The canvas is discolored and has spots. THe eyelet has pulled out of the canvas. There is some shrinkage but it seems like it stretched back into shape it would all go back if this is for restoration? The silver colored metals all have some ... moresurface"corrosions" or discolorations in varing degrees? The bottom silver end disk is either pitted by corrosion or abrasion form use/abuse or storage? Looks like an easy sand/buff? The silver metal on the grip area seems good but has some lightly shiney areas and some darker areas. The metal is smooth with no pitting. That is about all I can describe plus the pictures. Rare HOLLAND St. Joe, MI travel 4pc vintage fishing rod, steel pole, screws ON!!
Up for sale is a very neat and rare 4 piece steel fishing rod.Holland brand out of St. Joseph Michigan.Like a lot of other very neat fishing items that came from west Michigan area.This rod differs very much from the norm. It actually SCREWS its sections together.Measures about 4 1/2' has cloth case with name, amber bakelite eyelets that don't look crack up, just dirty it looks.Has some rust and corrosion on metal areas, and the bottom cork doesn't look original, but I could be wrong.Everything screws together ok, and its pretty sturdy.Great unique fishing item.Overall I would think its in fair condition.Please see pics.Any questions please ask.Thanks for looking, and check out my other vintage fishing related items.

Vintage PREMAX Fishing Rod and Reel--Steel line, wooden handle fibreglass rod-VG
This is an all original vintage PREMAX ice fishing pole and reel. It is approx. 4& 1/2 feet long. The reel is marked on the face"PREMAX" The reel is complete with string loaded. it has a wooden handle with the PREMAX logo wood burned into it. A rubber type knob. And greenish finish complete the end. The rod is fiberglass and complete with all eyes. The reel is complete and in good working condition, it has some wear on the greenish finish that gives it a story and character. Great working condition with vintage character that is awesome.
