Vintage UMCO 173U Tackle box, Very good condition
Photo is actual item in auction. Condition would be excellent if not for some cracking in a few places in the black tray liners. Even that is not excessive. The box itself and hinges. Handle and latch are excellent. Note the spare reel holding bracket to the right in the top of the box. This box measures 17 x 6-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches. It is constructed of light but very strong fiberglass with anodized aluminum hardware. State of the art for it's time. Very good condition for over fifty years old. This was the go-to tackle box in the late fifties on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. It withstood the salt water better than anything else available and was exceptionally well constructed. And very light in weight. I personally used this one for many years. A great way to display your vintage lures. When you go out fishing do you want to tell the other guys you got the BIGGEST ONE and be able to back it up? Well if you are hauling this monster tackle box around you will be able to back what you say and be able to fish for dang near anything out of the box. And have a cooler on the bottom for the refreshing beverage to boot! The box is a UMCO UPB 4500. The color is Borwn with gold trim. The box is in good working shape. there are some use marks. A small dent in one corner. The rim between the possum bottom and the top has some dings and not smooth. The trays and inside are dirty but I do not find the worm holes or melted plastic. Measures 18 inches tall. 12 inches wide and 21 inches wide. UMCO 900 U black box. Excellent condition. Outside of box has usual scuff marks here and there and some very small 1/64 inch dots of white paint, easily removed if you wish. Bottom of box has lots of light scrapes as you would expect, no deep cuts or bruises. All latches work as they should. Inside of box, no worm burns or cracks in any of the trays. Small amounts of rust marks/stains here and there, can be removed. Bottom of inside of box is in very good condition, normal use marks here and there. Hindges all work with no missing parts. There is a slight indentation, 1/16 inch at the top of one of the tray divider compartments, it is a dent and not a crack. I am not going to say this box is rare but I will comment on the fact that it is black and it is a 900 U. Many thanks for looking. Sales are final on used items. UMCO 2000 WS tackle box. Outside of box has normal wear. Small scraps and small marks, bottom of box is excellent, hardly any marks. All latches and hardware excellent. Handle has a small crack in rubber housing that attaches to box, does not compromise the function of the handle in any way. Inside brown wood grain housing of box is near mint. Inside bottom of box is in Mint- condition. Six of the ninety-seven individual compartments have small worm/burn marks. Many about 1/8 inch in diameter, Two of these trays have longer narrower sorm/ burn marks, all worm marks are not deep. Most trays are in mint to mint- condition. There are no cracks or chips in any for the trays. There are three rows of trays that are in mint condition and look as if they have never been used. Please note the top tray that contains two 2 3/4 inch circle compartments. ... moreYou will note that there is one circular clear plastic container in one of these circular compartments. The lid on this plastic container can be removed and works normally. The base of this clear plastic container is stuck in the compartment. There appears to be a worm burns under the bottom of this clear circular container. I cannot remove it using normal lifting pressure. I did not want to try any further attempts to remove it. I am not an expert on these boxes and did not want to cause any damage in trying to remove it.
