Here we have TWO small trade Raised Pillar fishing reels by'Montague' in the U.S.A. The first is a small 80 yard reel'The Chief' reel marked clearly on the face of the reel; CHIEF' It has a sliding button for drag and a sliding button for the check mechanism which both work correctly. The reel is in excellent condition. The knob is plastic or bone and also is in great condition with no cracks. The reel is loaded with some sort of braided line. The second reel is a 8 0 yard'Climax' reel which is clearly marked on the foot; The Climax' The other side of the foot is marked; Registered Pat. July 8. 1894' It has an ebonite knob with no cracks or chips. It is loaded with a nylon type backing line. This reel also has a sliding button system for both the drag and check mechanisms. The reel on the right is a Sears#641272 Drive Direct level wind that works well. It needs a cleaning and has a crack to one plastic handle and a slight bend to the foot. Vintage Collectable ASHTRAY -Fishing- PENN REELS Promo
While preparing to retire to a small cabin in the"Great North Woods" i came across boxes of fishing and/or hunting related promotional memorabilia and past year's salesman's samples. I had collected these gifts to our retail store from various manufacturers over many years but recently sold the store and have no room to continue storing them. THIS one is really quite uncommon. Even our local PENN Reels salesman didn't remember ever having seen another one! We figure it dates back to the late 60's or early 70's but may be earlier. PENN Reels has changed hands several times in recent years making ORIGINAL PENN promotional items quite collectable. This is a black, circular, plastic ASHTRAY about 3-1/4" in diameter with three cigarette rests between which are the words: PENN- FISHING- REELS" It features ... morea nicely detailed, saltwater sailfish or tarpon jumping out of the water and the words: DEPEND on PENN" in molded raised lettering. On the back/bottom are trhe words: PENN FISHING TACKLE MFG. CO. Phila, PA" and the sentiment: Compliments and Good Luck" also in molded, raised lettering. There are some mold marks, scuffs and small blemishes but it has never been used and over-all is in pretty good shape. As economic times get tougher fewer and fewer advertising freebies are given out so they are becoming quite collectible! This would be a terrific addition to any collection or a great item for any"mancave" or sportsman's wardrobe. This is a group of three fishing reels. One is a Pflueger and says Pflueger Akron in a triangle and beneath that it says trademark. No. 1895, Made in the USA and it turns smoothly. The next two reels says HAwthorne, Model No. 352 and beneath that it says 60-6309, Montgomery Ward& Co. Made in the USA and they have scenes etched on them. Ocean City vintage fishing reels 5 -603, 112, 112, catalina, 605 for parts
These were kept for part reels. But all work. The 603 handle knob is stiff but will loosen with oil. The 605 handle knob needs oil also. And the clicker does not work. One of the 112's has a cracked left end plate. The catalina 250 works well but the wood handle knob comes out a 1/4" on the shaft. Thanks for looking will be shipped within 24 hours of payment.
