We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years. As we have now discovered, back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin. NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Hiriam Carey was the Dublin carriage driver for Mark Twain and my Grandmother was a seamstress who also made costumes for the likes of Amelia Earhart and Joseph Linden Smith during their stays in Dublin. Though there may not have been a lot of money to purchase luxuries' or non essential items sometimes the family was given small things for either payment or in appreciation. My mother and grandmother were founders of a local button club and since ... moremy grandmother was a seamstress who made costumes for the Dublin Art Colony plays many of their special collected buttons were remnants of other peoples' purchases. Here we have a card approx. 9 1/4" X 13 1/4" with 17 buttons from 3/4" to 1 1/2" in diameter. Starting with a humble Chinese restaurant place mat. Alice has created a treasure, employing buttons of various materials, made during the last 150 + years. There are 3 gilt buttons with back marks indicating their quality and"SPORTING. The rabbit has a nice grape& vine decoration on its edge, the 2 dogs a more common star& slash design. Additionally, in the lower left corner there is a one piece gilt example with a molded rabbit with foliage on a lined field. Encircling the large dragon with cut-steel star and quarter moon are also a molded boar on two piece metal base, a two piece metal with rooster, two piece pseudo Buffalo Nickel and high relief of 3 children and goat on a one piece metal. Up for auction is a vintage painted and carved decoy Blue Wing Teal duck decoy recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good used condition and has a wonderful folky appearance. There is a pencil markings on this piece, on the base, best seen in photo#4-5. This decoy also has glass eyes. It measures approximately 3 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 2" in size. There is no weight on this piece, so it was probably never a working or user piece. A nice addition to a decoy collection or to be used as a decorative accessory in any country or cabin theme. The trophy weighs 18 1/3 Troy Ounces. But has a concrete-filled base. Typically the silver content is about half of the total weight, when the base is weighted with concrete.
