These where perched at an auction at the old closed Sunset Line and Twine Mill in Petaluma and were part of the inventory of what was there after the mill closed. This is a large spool. 150 yards of Newton's"Newtop-Twist" Princess Pat cuttyhunk linen fishing line from Ireland in the original box. The spool is wood, both labels in tact however they have been punched. The box doubles as a"one man reel" as you simply slide a pencil through the reel and set into pre-notched box. The spool says 15 thread wet test 45 pounds. It appears that some of the line has been used but not much. the spool looks to be made from wood. Cuttyhunk Cable Laid Vintage Fishing Line Best Grade Irish Linen, Gudesea Line
This is a large wooden spool of tan linen fishing line. Partly used, with the original box. I do not know how much of the original 400 yards of it was used but it is tightly factory wrapped on the 7 inch by 3 3/4 inch spool, missing no more than 15/32' Production of this cable laid thread was stopped. when nylon fishing line became available after WWII. This strong(54 lb wet test) cable laid Irish linen is now most often saved as a fishing collectable, but also is used in scale model ship building as it looks like the rope used on boats, just scaled down: 18 thread can be used as 13" diameter rope for standing rigging. Cuttyhunk linen was made in Pottstown PA by Gudebrod Bros. Silk Co. is labeled Gudesea Line, 50's Lea and has a $12.95 price tag from a time when that was real money.

This is a really nice. Very old wooden spool of fishing line. It measures 2-1/2" by 1-1/2" and is in aged condition but still a great display item. Shipping may be less in your area. Here is an extremely rare piece to compliment your fishing memorabilia collection. This is an antique wooden spool for fishing line. Which in this case is braided cuttyhunk from VL&A(Von Lengerke and Antoine of Chicago) The spool is about 2.5" in diameter and stands 1.5" tall. Black in color and has a paper label on both sides. It still retains a good bit of the original cuttyhunk. Good condition. Circa early 1900s. See Photos. This was found in an old tackle box.
