All hand forged iron spear with a great deal of character. Having a crude looking furl and tab collar, rough looking finish and heavy duty construction. A 28" long spear with narrow 4" wide head, having three saw tooth edged tines and curved shoulders brazed to the handle. In excellent condition. Appears to be mid to late 19th century. It had a long wood handle many years ago that has been long gone! Someone cleaned it up and may have painted it for display! ANTIQUE Hand Forged Iron Trident Spear Nautical Primitive Poseidon Fishing !
Offered for your consideration is this vintage all Hand Wrought Iron Trident.This was found in a Dumping Pit on land adjacent to a Fort Site in Nebraska in 1988.I will tell the winning bidder the location of the site.The newest it could be is in the late 1820's.Many neat items were taken from this Pit.Was more then likely brought there by a soldier when he came from the East somewhere.I would think it is to thick for catching fish.But that is my opinion.The tines are 1/4" thick at the tine points, an gets larger from there.You can see where the U shaped piece was added to the main body.This is the last of the items that was found there.Weighs 15.75 ounces.Good luck on the auction. Vintage Hand Forged Heavy Fishing Spear Sturgeon Ice Fishing Folk Art
Each tine is 5.5 L and forged from 3/8" steel bolts. The spear head is 7.5" wide and weighs 2.5 lbs. The head looks to have been forged to the 7.5"L. shaft. Shaft has a. 1.25" ID and has a 3/8" threaded bolt attached to the middle inside for attaching a handle. It is believed to have come from an old hunting& fishing camp on a lake that was known for its sturgeon population. But it was also believed to have been more cards and beer then fish and duck.
