Cuttyhunk Cable Laid Vintage Fishing Line Best Grade Irish Linen, Gudesea Line
This is a large wooden spool of tan linen fishing line. Partly used, with the original box. I do not know how much of the original 400 yards of it was used but it is tightly factory wrapped on the 7 inch by 3 3/4 inch spool, missing no more than 15/32' Production of this cable laid thread was stopped. when nylon fishing line became available after WWII. This strong(54 lb wet test) cable laid Irish linen is now most often saved as a fishing collectable, but also is used in scale model ship building as it looks like the rope used on boats, just scaled down: 18 thread can be used as 13" diameter rope for standing rigging. Cuttyhunk linen was made in Pottstown PA by Gudebrod Bros. Silk Co. is labeled Gudesea Line, 50's Lea and has a $12.95 price tag from a time when that was real money.

The spools are really in pretty good Vintage condition. While I don't have a lot of fishing knowledge. I do have knowledge of linen fibers.
