OLD Vtg ANTIQUE HOOK-OUT-EZY FISH GRABBER HANDLER TACKLE BOX TOOL Vintage/antique"HOOK-OUT EZY" tool for the fisherman. It is very well made. Both sides of the one extended arm have etched the name of the tool and"PAT PEND" The plier style tool is designed as an aid for the fisherman in removing the hook from the mouth of the fish. The handle compression end is spring loaded. I'm sure that the tool can be utilized by applying pressure to one side of the jaw while the other is pressing on the hook or lure. Very well built with 1/8" thick metal. About 9-1/4" x 5" wide at the relaxed handles x about 1/4" thick at the pivot point. Please enlarge all pictures to see the condition and details the best. The Norlund's spring gaff was a favorite of Allegheny. Niagara and St. Lawrence River muskellunge and pike fisherman, as the lunker fish of the era could be quickly and safely subdued and brought aboard their boats. I have heard believable stories of muskellunge knocking the bottom out of wooden boats when brought aboard. In use. The spring loaded jaws are manually opened and set in the open or ready to use position. A trip mechanism located between the opened jaws releases, closing the jaws with authority when the tool is forcefully pushed against the body of the fish to be harvested. Made of spring steel it measures about 29" overall x about 5" wide(closed) x about 10 3/4" wide(opened) and is marked"Norlund's Williamsport Pa. USA" on the face of the spring head mechanism. The tool is used and is in original ... morecondition; mechanism works flawlessly and has strong spring tension. The green finish looks like it is original to the piece and shows expected thinning. The wood handle is solid and has a hole in the end for hanging. The teeth are straight and in excellent condition. There is no evidence of damage. 2 Vintage NORLUND Fish Grabber Spring Loaded Gaff Fish Trap Hook
A beautiful pair of spring loaded gaffs with a wicked snap action. These grabbers were also used in the 1930's to get hold of trapped animals. Please check out the last two pictures I made of a French catalogue. Both grabbers are marked"NORLUND'S Williamsport. PA. USA" The biggest of the two measures 352 MM(13.9 inches) Whilst the smallest measures 315 MM(12.4 inches) They are both in very good working condition apart from some very slight pitting. Norlund Co. 1924) initially operated a division called Norlund Metal Products. That division made four versions of Lion Fish Gaffs along with attachments for shoes or boots commonly called Crampons. It is presumed that the name Lion was intended to relate to the grip of a lion. A fish gaff is used to grab and secure a fish in order to pull it from the water or hold it while removing the hook. Some models of the fish gaffs Norlund made were like tongs with long handles. Another style was spring-loaded and another was a long sharpened hook on the end of a handle. Handle is two piece Aluminum and is 47-1/2" long and breaks down to 30" Operates perfectly; jaws have to be pulled apart to set. When Trigger line is pulled, the jaws snap closed trapping Fish or other object within the 2 gaffs. Great Survival Tool, Collectible, or Wall Hanger! Could be used Ice Fishing with a Decoy.
