Vintage Ashaway pure silk Fishing Flyline original box and bakelite package
Complete and in fair condition. Note; The line has never been out of the package and is stuck together. I'm thinking these lines were waxed somehow. It's more stuck than the nylon line I have for sale. The end is loose and feels dry. There is a mark on the package where the line has melted against it. The original cardboard box has writing and stains. Notice the logo on the box with the reference to the Japanese flag. There is no indication of where the line is made. Except that a patent# infers the US. Also on the side is an Ashaway logo with a swastika. The same logo is on the front of the Bakelite but the swastika has been marked over. Box is marked double taper, 30 yards, HDH.

Up for auction is this unique Ashaway fishing line dispenser. Complete with its original spool of line. The dispenser is called a"Roll-A-Way" and it's made of a thin plastic base, with a similar, but clear removable top. The line spool is mounted on an axle inside, which allows line to be easily spooled from the dispenser. The spool of line included, is called Ashaway"Life-Line" The spool appears to have most, if not all, of its original line remaining. The line is"Powerized" Dacron, 300 yards, in a sand color. It is specifically designed for 50 lb. class, testing at 45- 50 lbs. A great display item for any collector, but I'm not sure it would be good for actual use, due to its age. We searched the catalog. But could not find a printing date. We estimate the catalog to be from the 1930s or 1940s. Shows some of the different fishing lines offered. Some very cool b&w photos of fishermen and their catches- some very big fish. One photo has writer Zane Grey with his fishing pole and a tiger shark. This lot consist of 2 Ashaway"V" wooden line spools of nylon connected.none of the labels have been punched. 2 spools of 50 yds each and 10 pound test. Spools are near mint and comes in correct box-box shows a little wear but solid. These spools I think were made around 1943-1945 because the label mentions"Our government has first call on all of Ashaway equipment" Please look at photos for condition.
