This auction is for an absolutely gorgeous fly fishing rod and reel combination. A Sage 8'6" 2-piece Graphite III GFL 586 RPLB equipped with a famed pre-1998 Ross Gunnison G-1 reel. Also included in the auction is a fabric covered tube carrying case. It has been at least 40 years since I used a fly rod and have never had the privledge of using one of this quality, so most of the information I am providing came from reading right off the equipment or from on-line research. The rod and reel probably date ... morefrom the 1980s and represent about the best quality that could be had at the time- and would be hard to better even now. The RPLB designation indicates that this was a Sage blank that was custom wrapped. It appears to me that the wrapping was done beautifully. There are virtually no signs of use or wear on this equipment. Everything seems to work as it should and the only cosmetic defect is a little chipping around the area where the two sections of the rod join. If you have any questions about these items. It's in great condition. No scratches or chips and comes with the original Sage tube sock and rod tube. Front and back the reel looks great and is loaded with Scientific Anglers' Ultra3 WF-5-F line. The spool edge has some light wear and it sounds real sweet! This is Sage's older Light Line Series. It has a lovely. Unhurried and slower action reminiscent of cane rods. This is a like new Cabelas LSi(Line Speed Improved) 6 wt 8' 6" fly rod. You can't find in better condition than mine. Looks new. Cork is excellent and all the alignment dots are in tact. This rod is rated as fast and it is. Fastest rod I have ever owned and a blast to cast. I bought it in order to have a rod that would work on our windier days here in Kansas. I am not an expert caster and I have been able to cast this 90' Most of my fishing is with 3 and 4 wt rods with slower action and this is the only rod I cast that far. I have found that I can double haul on this rod and push the cast as hard and fast as I want. It will eat up any thing you put in it without ever making you feel like you over powered the stroke. Why sell it. I like to fish a lot and most of what I do is small local stuff in ponds and some spill ways from ... morethe lake but I can do all that with one of my 4 wt rods that my wife says I have to many of. The 6 wt will get out to the middle of the ponds but then hooking small fish is not as much fun as it is with one of the 4 wt rods. I just don't reach for it that much any more and as soon as i sell it I am sure someone will call and ask me to go to Montana and do some real fishing and I will wish like hell I still had it but for now it just sits around a lot. Vintage WWII Vicki Japan Split Bamboo Combo Fly/Spin Rod 8 ft/6 ft W/Orig Box
A description follows the pictures so please make sure you scroll all the way down through the photos. And READ the description! I will combine shipping on multiple purchases whenever possible. This is such a cool item. It is a vintage WWII era split bamboo fishing rod that converts to either an 8 Foot long fly rod-or- a 6 Foot long Spin Casting rod. It comes in its original wooden case and includes flies. Spinners and what have you. The rod itself consists of 5 sections, and includes two fly tips and a spinner tip. The cork handle comes off and turns around to convert the reel area from fly to spin. It has a small oval foil label on the box reading Vicki, with a Crown, and Japan on it. The same label is on the grip of the rod. It doesn't look like it was used but the plastic that usually would cover the grip is not on it so maybe it ... morewas used but if so, it was very lightly. The guide loops are all tight. The glue used to adhere them is a little sloppy in some areas. The boy who owned this wrote his name on the box. It looks like it might come off. One of the flip down clasps is missing on the box. There are some cracks and missing pieces on the box. There are some other numbers written on one end of the box, but I don't know what they mean.
