It has a downward locking reel seat. The ferule is still very tight fitting and the rod casts beautifully. I paired it with this lightweight reel and the line is also from Cortland, the 444 Classic 6wt. I’ve included a classic Orvis reel case as well. As with all Orvis rods, is overated and stated to be a 7wt. The rod is not good with a 7wt line, it feels tippy. However, if you put a DT6 cortland peach444 on this rod, it truly is magificent. Some people claim to use this rod for bass. I used it on a spring creeks in WY and it was the perfect rod for medium size rising trout. Full flexing, very delicate presentations, and a true delight to cast. The 8' rod seems to pop up less than the shorter Eagles and is just as rare in this condition. Original bag and tube. I loathe sellig this rod but have become wrapped up in making bamboo rods and must sell my stuff to finance tools. Best of luck! Rod will be shipped priority and insured. Orvis Madison Bamboo Fly Rod and Orvis Vortex VO2 III Reel
I bought this rod and two others from Mike Clark at South Creek Ltd. in Lyons Colorado when I found out that the waiting list for his custom made rods was between 5-6 years. Mike had bought these from a collector and personally inspected them before selling them. Since I bought all three he gave me a great deal at $500 each. I then spent a couple hundred more on reels. I have two more up for auction as well. This auction if for an Orvis Madison bamboo fly rod serial#66219. 7 1/2 foot, 6- 7/8, rated as a HDG(6) According to the Orvis Database this was made in 1972. Included with the rod is an Orvis Vortex VO2 III reel and spare spool. There are holsters for both the reel and spare spool and the rod has the original tube and rod sock. I am not an expert but the bindings look tight and the rod in good shape. Winning bidder gets rod. I bought this rod new, and it is in excellent condition with little-to-no handling marks at all. The cork/reel seat/extended fighting butt are brand new. The rod developed a crack in the main cork 1 year ago, so the Orvis proshop replaced the cork and reel seat for me and added a removable fighting butt at my request since it was to be my light bass rod. It has been fished once since repair. The reel was purchased new and is in excellent condition as well with a few minor handling marks. Drag is 100% and spool spins function perfectly with no play. OK. I'm getting out of the switch rod deal-tried it and I like the single handed stuff too well. Here is a total 6wt outfit that is lightly used but in excellent shape. Orvis Access Switch 11 foot, 6wt, 4 piece, Tip Flex rod with tube with internal dividers plus an after market 4 section rod sock, and blank warranty card. Orvis 50A spinng reel and 5' Orvis FullFlex Rod. The reel has been setting for years and will need to be lubed. The bale closes slowly and will need to be lubed also. It looks to have been fished very little so I think a good cleaning and lube is all it needs. The rod is in very good condition I see no damage to it. Please ask any questions before purchase.
