Antique Chas Farlow Fly Rod Reuben Heaton Ebonite Reel 4 Pc Screw on Weight Ash
This antique Chas Farlow fly rod came from an auction in Vermont. It is a 4 piece rod. The brass butt is marked Chas Farlow Maker 191 Strand London Prize Medal. It was made between 1852 and 1884. Together the rod measures 10 feet. 10 inches. The reel is made of ash with drop ring brass ferrules. The reel does not have a maker's mark. I believe it to be a Reuben Heaton ebonite, but am not sure. It has a weigh that screws into the base. Any information on what this weight is used for would be greatly appreciated. It is in very good conditon, especially considering that it is at leat 129 years old. The bag has marks, stains. There are some wear marks on the reel and light wear on the rod.

The pole and reel are in excellent condition for their age, they have only been lightly used 2X. They are clean and have no issues. The cloth pole case has a few small snags, wear spots mostly from age. The aluminum hard tube case has some scratches and dings consistent with being stored behind the truck seat for 10 years. Some of the Orvis mark on the reel has worn off from rubbing against the case. I have had this set up for a few years now but I just never use it. Up for grabs is a RL Winston BII-X 9-foot 4-weight 4-piece fly rod. This is my favorite rod. Great for trout and panfish. Will cast a hoppe-dropper or a small popper with ease. But still have the delicacy to cast small dry flies. Rod is used and has my name on it.
