It is a twisted gut eyed fly and is in good used condition and on jap anned hook( see clear picture to decide before bidding) It is approx 2.5 inches total length and has an interim loop to protect the twisted gut. Great lot of antique fishing items including a wallet with nine flies or partial flies. Six triangular packets of gut snelled hooks, a lead sinker, an envelope postmarked 1901 with gut leaders inside and a loose snelled hook or two. Included among the snelled hook packets are a Sneck No.4 with four hooks, a Kinsey No.11 with six, a Harrison, Bartleet's No.4 with three, a Carlisle No.1 with six, a packet with"Bass" and New York on the front by W.B. S. Redditch with six and a Harrison's No.2 with 4. With the correct ribbing of flat silver tinsel and gold twist, but with an interesting variation in that there is a turn of Golden Pheasant breast feather at the shoulder instead of the usual Teal or Widgeon. Benchill size 3/0 vintage gut eye salmon fly. This fly may well be by HARDY'S. As it appears to be tied on one of their patent oval wire hooks, and is very much in their style. The fly probably dates from about 1920. And is in excellent condition without any of the fading so often found of the blue in this classic Tay pattern. vintage Irish Gut Loop fly 4/0
This is one the nicest and largest examples of this type of Irish fly as these usually go up to around 1/0 in size.I think its a Mallard and Claret but dont quote me as there are so many alike. Condition is superb and doesnt look to have been fished unlike other irish flies im listing.From the quality n condition of the hook this fly just gets better up to the head,lovely topping tail with crow veiling and some superb Hackle work throughout,size is 4/0 and looks like it was an exspensive fly back when made. Ebay have been in touch with the spanish guy who ruined my feedback and are gonna sort it. the buyer may wish to have this sent tracked and recorded.If so send me a note when youve won the item as i wont offer refunds for mail not turning up after ive provided proof of postage.
