For sale is a vintage leather fly wallet containing 36 antique and contemporary salmon flies that were tied for fishing New Brunswick's Miramichi River. The wallet was formerly owned by William Costello(who probably tied some of the contemporary full-dressed flies) and gave the wallet to me when he was no longer able to enjoy his sport. The wallet has 8 envelopes for leaders or materials. 8 leaves with pockets on both sides for various flies, 2 thick felt leaves, and 2 pages with tabs on both sides to hold 36 salmon flies(included, as shown) The wallet measures 4" x 6½" x 2" thick)

Offered is a box of six large Hardy Brothers salmon dry flies of the La Branche Pink Lady pattern. Tied in the collaboration of the famous early 20th Century American fly fishermen/fly tyers Edward Ringwood Hewitt(1866-1957) and George Michel Lucien La Branche(1875- From A Fly Fishing History by Dr. Andrew N. Herd: After Wood. The focus of salmon fishing development moved to America. Three men were to pioneer a new breakthrough: Hewitt, La Branche and Monell. Their inspiration came from none other than Theodore Gordon, who tied dry flies for salmon some time before 1903. Although La Branche proved that salmon would take just about any dry fly, he developed a special series ... moreof palmer hackled flies for the purpose, which rode high on their hackle points. LaBranche was later to compare the patterns to bottle brushes. And the trio settled on four patterns: the Colonel Monell, Soldier Palmer, Pink Lady Palmer, and the Mole. Despite Gordon, Monell, Hewitt and LaBranche's pioneering work, the dry fly was not popularised until the 1930s. When Lee Wulff revisited the whole problem of floating flies for salmon, and indulged in some major design work. The result was the Gray Wulff, a pattern which was so successful that it encouraged the inventor to develop the White Wulff and the Royal Wulff. The three patterns still form the mainstay of many fishermen's dry fly boxes. The dry fly method works well for salmon, anywhere where fish are present in large quantities, where a sighted fish can be accurately fished to, or in water temperatures over 60° Fahrenheit, which may explain why it is not so successful in Northern Europe. A superb and rare vintage brown leather fly fishing storage box with about 86 flies by I believe Abercrombie& Fitch although there is no makers name on the piece. The box is to hold your flies and line for fly fishing. It consists of 4 separate trays to hold the flies. There are flies of all sizes including some stunning salmon flies. The leather box is in good condition with only a side piece of leather that is unstitched. It could clean up very well with some TLC. The box has a lock but there is no key. Aprox 30 off vintage hairwing flies. 2off are treble hooks and 1off is micro fly the rest are double or single. Some have not been fished so will enhance any collection.One has a broken hook to a double.There looks to be green highlander, ally shrimp, gary dog and many others. On Offer is this wonderful Antique Irish Pigskin Salmon and Trout Fly wallet containing over 200 Salmon and Trout Flies. Written on the inside of the wallet is Anderson Dawson St.Dublin Also on some of the aluminium plates There is a pouch in the back which has some casts encased in original wrappers, There are 3 fly tying tools in the tool section at the back also. There are 6 double sided sections within the wallet some aluminium. The overall condition is superb.no repairs or tears seams of wallet are perfect. There is also a moleskin pouch which is original to the wallet. It is in found condition.
