Full dressed JOCK SCOTT classic Atlantic salmon fly tied on a#6 hook by Ernest Schweibert(1931-2005) Angler. Author, scholar, photographer, and all-round one-of-a-kind personality. The fly is an extremely fine example of his ability as a classic fly tier and the lack of available examples of his work, makes every fly- especially full-dressed salmon flies- a truly collectible, ... morerare and important piece of history. Schwiebert was a pioneer in the conservation movement. Having been involved with the founding of Trout Unlimited, Theodore Gordon FlyFishers and the Federation of Fly Fishers. He is best remembered as the author of some of the most memorable and collectible books on angling including Matching the Hatch(1955) Nymphs(1973) Salmon of the World(1970) And the two-volume Trout(1978) He wrote numerous magazine articles and short stories which were published in such collections as Remembrances of Rivers Past(1972) Death of a Riverkeeper(1980) And A River for Christmas(1988) JOCK SCOTT comes framed. Jock Scott, 4 pieces vintage with real Toucan and Crow! Estimated from ca 1920!
These 4 Jock Scotts came from a collection of vintage fly fishing materials. The youngest material in the collection was dated 1921. The flies have original Indian Crow feathers for tails. And real Toucan for veilings. The tying is spectacular, although the flies have been fished in the old days. The smallest is a size 4, and is the only one of the 4 that has subs for tail and body veilings. Great stuff. About the brightest Crow feathers that I have seen on vintage flies.

Very fine vintage salmon fishing fly: "Jock Scott":
This is a pretty example of the classic salmon fly pattern"Jock Scott" with the"wings" formed from blending red. Black-and-white barred and blue feather barbs, the throat from guinea-fowl and black hackles, a pair of jungle cock eyed cape feathers; the body is wound with yellow silk held by silver wire; the tail is a red tip; the eye end of the fly is sealed with black varnish. The hook measures 38 mm from the eye to the apex of the bend. Although I have marked this as"used" This appears to have never been used. This will be sent out between sheets of thin cardboard in a standard envelope. Please note that I am listing other vintage salmon flies this week and that. If you purchase more than one, I can send them all out together for the same £2.00 postage cost.

I recently obtained a large box of vintage gut eyed salmon flies(possibly by Charles Farlow of London) at an estate sale and will be listing them in various lots. See last photo which is included here for information only. Offered here is a vintage fully dressed gut eyed Jock Scott salmon fly which measures just over 1 7/8" and would appear to be a size 3/0(see photos) It is in nice original condition as per the photos below showing the tinsel butt/tag whipping to have unravelled. It is offered here with a low price start and no reserve.

Antique Fishing Flies Lot ~ over 20 in all ~ Some hand tied ~ Incl Jock Scott
Here for bid is a lot of antique/vintage FISHING FLIES At the outset. Let me say that I don't know much about fishing flies. So I couldn't tell a wet from a dry, or what the various names are- except for one, which is a JOCK SCOTT. Whatever info I have is from online sources, which aren't many. Suffice it to say. These flies belonged to my dad who loved to fish- anywhere. He did some fly fishing on lakes and streams, and even fished for flounder with those old block frame lines(don't know what you call them) I know he tied his own in his younger years, so I imagine more than one of these flies is of his own creation. In any event. There are over 25 o them, of all sizes. The Jock Scott is perhaps the most colorful, but others are really nice too- at least four have eyes(3 have painted eyes and one has glass eyes) Condition ... morevaries between near mint to good/very good. One of the biggest ones has a bit of rust staining. But the rest are nearly perfect except a few with some light rust on the hooks. Generally I'd say these are in fabulous shape for their ages, which range from the early 70's back to probably the 1920's. Sizes range from 1" to 5" A really lovely set for the fisherman or for display. Please be sure to see all pix. And utilize the zoom feature for detail.
