Item Photos, Hello and welcome to the auction and thank you for viewing.This is for some old.Knotted fishing silkworm gut and four vintage packets and contents.I would think that the first three,where the cast is of the thicker variety,could be suitable for tying gut eyed salmon flies.The group consists of: 1) An Ogden Smith of 62 St.James Street.Piccadilly,London glassine or similar packet for"Dependa" Silkworm Gut Casting Line size 2/5 and contents.The contents look to be original as stated on the packet and an Ogden Smith printed green label is attached to the cast.The cast appears unused,the packet shows some browning, 2) A C.E.D.Harris& Co. of 40a Evesham Street.Redditch glassine or similar packet and contents for"Summit" Brand Regd.Drawn Silkworm Gut Casts(the letters UN have been written in ink to the packet ... morein front of Drawn)Size:Marana,Colour:Mist Blue and 3 Yards.The contents look to be original as stated on the packet.In excellent condition,the cast appears unused,There is a little browning to the packet, 3) An old glassine or similar packet with the stamp of James Ogden of Cheltenham with 2/5 which I presume is the size written on.There are two coils of quite strong knotted line inside which I would think would surely be gut.The line looks to be in excellent condition.The James Ogden stamp has faded.The packet shows some creasing.Wear and browning signs.James Ogden was a Cheltenham tackle dealer and was going in the mid nineteenth century.He was born in 1803 and died in 1880(told by his daughter Mrs.Ogden Smith)There is no way to know if the contents are original but it would seem so especially with a size 2/5 written to the outside which I would think refers to the size of the gut.It is also not possible to date this packet but I would think that it could be a rare surviving example, 4) An Alex Martin The"Thistle" Cast packet for 1X and contents holding a cast.Part of the packet text states:Represents the Highest Grade of Material.Skill and Workmanship,that is possib

Hello and welcome to the auction and thank you for viewing.This is for an old Ogden Smith booklet of"Mermaid" Flies.The original covers are missing.There are 32 sides and 16 plates of flies(343 patterns) shown in colour including two plates of salmon flies and salmon lures.There is also a list of 123 fully dressed salmon fly patterns. The booklet is complete except for the covers.There is a bit of scattered marking to the first and last pages and a little elsewhere.Some plates show light surface marks in places.The first and last page joint to the foot shows a little separation.The binding is sound.The staples show rust.There is tear to the edge area of the margin which shows from page 18 to the end.There are no inscriptions.
