When I say the reel has been serviced I mean it has been completely stripped down and soaked in mineral spirits over night. Thoroughly cleaned, and then reassembled with synthetic grease and oil to prevent rust and hardening of the lubricants. This reel functions perfectly and shows almost no signs of wear or use. I have been repairing and rebuilding/restoring fishing reels for over 35 years and this reel is an excellent buy. Up for bid is a GARCIA MITCHELL 302 SALT WATER SPINNING FISHING REEL. The number on the bottom of the reel foot is 701338. Under the rotating head it says US PATENT 2 726 052 MADE IN FRANCE. The reel has a very nice working drag. Anti-reverse, smooth reeling mechanism and great working bail. The spool head does not move up and down as far as it should when cranking the handle to help in retrieving the line evenly on the spool. Appearance is very decent for the vintage with some nicks and rubs as you can see. The back end of the reel foot has been trimmed down some, obviously to fit the reel attachment of a particular rod. Up for auction is a nice used Garcia Mitchell Model 302 saltwater spinning reel. It is a big reel. Weighing one pound six ounces. It was made in France and is so marked on the back of the spool cover. There is a number on the foot which is 641593. Cosmetically, the reel is in pretty decent shape, as are the graphics. There is a little rub on the black finish at the back of the frame and two small spots on the spool cover. Mechanically, the reel is in good working order. The action is smooth and the anti-reverse, clicking and drag mechanisms all work fine. The bail is strong. Mechanically. It works as in Very Good condition. The exterior is somewhat rough, therefore the Good rating. All features/functions work sure and strong. The drag works fine but is slightly“wasdhboardy” The bail. Clicker, anti-reverse and folding handle work just fine. It was made in France and has a U.S. serial number of 2,726,052. I looked it up and it was patented in the U.S. in 1952. PLEASE NOTE: I do not take reels apart for any reason before selling them. I make no attempts to doctor them before selling. You get it just as I did. I have been known to use a dry paint brush or a damp rag to remove surface soil. I have also been known to peek under the spool of a spinning reel or under the spool cover of a spincasting reel to remove any undesirable debris. I’ll let the photos say the rest. Mitchell 302 Saltwater spinning reel. Made in France. Size of a Penn 704, holds 300 yds. of 20 lbs. test line. Comes with all the paper work you see, including top half of box. Box has been taped and abused,no bottom, all the paper work is pretty clean including the receipt from 1966. Reel has been very lightly used as you can see bye the factory grease and is the smoothest 302 I have had. Looks like it sat on a shelf for many years accounting for the corrosion on the top of the crank housing and foot. Other then that it is a nice time capsule that can be fished for another 48 years. The mech. appears to work correctly. It was not field tested. It has scratches and scrapes. The foot is lightly pitted. The booklets are worn and stained.
