I didn't service this reel because it is a real collector's item and is in such good shape I thought a collector would want the reel with it's original patina. It shows it's age a little bit. But everyting works perfectly and it is in great shape. I have been chastised in the past for restoring reels of this vintage and removing the original patina. So I have just wiped this one down and made sure everything is in working order and I assure that this reel is in great shape for it's age. Inverted, and the bottom of the foot is stamped with"M" FROM RESEARCHING THE INTERNET. IT APPEARS THIS WAS A test or EXPERIMENT DURING CONVERSION FROM THE 3RD VERSION TO THE 4TH VERSION. From the Mitchell Reel Museum" online. Made in c1950 during the 3rd versions, it was sent out as a Pilot or test model to only a few choice distributors and not sold to the public. The reason was that during this time, Hardy held the full-bail patent. After a deal was ... moremade between Mitchell, Impecco and Hardy allowing full bails, production starting in c1952. Notice the picture taken from a book.Although this reel does not have the round crank knob. It does have the brass slide and plastic gear that didn't last long according to the book by Wallace Carney for Mitchell reel collectors. The inverted serial number is on the side as shown in book. Not all test models had the exact same variations, and the 4th version changed the serial numbers away from the side and away from starting with a letter. So.with my deductions this is a test between the 3rd and 4th version. Condition: lightly used. Early Mitchell 300 Spinning Reel - PRE "Garcia" & "300" Labels - SN # B64427
Early Model Mitchell Spinning Reel Serial# B64427- No"Garcia" or"300" Lettering. Auction is for a nice looking very early model Mitchell 300 spinning reel. Made in France. This one is pre"Garcia" lettering and even the"300" model number. Only states"Mitchell" on the sideplate. With serial# B 64427 on reverse side instead of reel seat. Also has a Roman"II" on front of spool. Reel in very good condition for it's age, shows some scuffing on spool housing and underside body. Bailer hardware clean and free of any significant pitting residue. It does look like someone may have touched up the paint on spool housing and reel seat at some point, see photos for more. Smooth spin but a little tight only because grease is old, nothing functionally wrong with it. Bailer easy to set and trips ... morefast like clockwork. Mitchell Spinning Reel There is no model number on this reel or a serial number! Stamped only with" Mitchell" on the side and" 50" under the foot. Made in France This is a smooth running reel and ready to fish! It has normal wear and tear(scratches) on it from use. It looks like many of the scratches were touched up with black paint.
